Leinster Senior League Joe Tynan Cup Final 2023

The Transport Club, the setting for today’s Joe Tynan Cup Final in the Leinster Senior League between Dingle United and Monread FC. The original home ground of Bangor Celtic and Transport Iveagh Trust FC.

We’ve only gone and found another game haven’t we! I knew this would end up happening! Thanks to Jon Ripley for helping us find this cup final whilst we were sat in Costa. A midday kick off so we will now take the walk over to Crumlin for this match!

About 11:10am and here we are at the Transport Club. €5 to watch this cup final! Stupendous! Our accents have given us away and the man on the gate is in conversation with us both! Very friendly people here and they certainly have made us so welcome so far! Another family walking through the gate tell us that we must support Dingle today! Let’s see what they can muscle up!

It’s a glorious Saturday afternoon here as the 2 teams make their way back to their dressing rooms and I make my way up for another Guinness! A top tier view from the beer garden up here and a decent view of town as the teams do the pre-match handshake, it’s grassroots in Ireland now! Who will win the Joe Tynan Cup this year?

Kick Off! 5 minutes in and Dingle play down the right, it’s crossed in, number 9 is there at the back post… AND HE HEADS IT HOME! What a start for dingle! 1-0!

15 minutes now and can Monread get back into this game? They come forward, it’s played to number 10 who shoots first time from around 20 yards out… Over! Better from Monread though.

19 minutes now and Monread have a free kick on the edge of the box, number 8 shoots… It’s wide!

3 minutes later and Dingle come forward, it’s played to number 9 in the box on the right and he shoots on the half volley… OFF THE LINE! Monread get it away. So close there for Dingle!

28th minute and it’s a free kick on halfway for Monread, it’s played into the box, it comes for number 4… OH! He’s missed the ball completely… What a chance!!

32 minutes gone and Dingle’s number 11 is away down the right, he gets into the box and shoots… Oh it’s a tame effort and the keeper saves comfortably! He should be doing better there!

Both teams still going at it but at half time it remains 1-0 to Dingle.

Second half, 55th minute and it’s a corner for Monread, it’s played in… It’s pinball in the middle… Dingle get it away but only to number 5 on the edge of the box to chest and volley… Good save! Tipped over by the keeper for a corner, in it comes… Monread get a head to it… But it’s wide and out for a goal kick.

62 minutes now and Dingle play down the left, it’s crossed in, it comes back for number 9 to strike from the edge of the box… OH! Good defending! Headed out for a corner, in it comes… Cleared by Monread.

1 minute later and Dingle come forward, it’s played to number 11 who flicks it up and volleys from the edge of the box… The keeper gets there but it’s squirmed underneath him… It’s trickled in!! He couldn’t keep it out! He should have! It’s rolled in! And it’s 2-0! Dingle delight here!

68th minute and Monread play down the left, it’s crossed in, number 9 is there… He’s volleyed over! Big chance!

78 minutes now and Monread win a throw in on the left in their own half, Dingle’s number 14 has pushed the Monread man into the fence… Oh dear did he kick him too? He’s off! Red card! Not what you should be doing when you’re 2 up with just over 10 minutes to go…

Monread are 2 down but aren’t really making the most of being a man up in all fairness… Dingle looking pretty comfortable.

Into added time and Dingle play down the right, it’s crossed in, number 17 plays it to number 16 to shoot… The keeper saves! Play goes on… That’s it! The Dingle players in delirium! They’ve won the cup! Fireworks are going off! Look what it means!

FT: Dingle United 2-0 Monread FC
