Melton Town

Melton Sports Village, home of Melton Town based in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire and compete in Step 5 of the non league pyramid in the United Counties League Premier Division North. Me and Mr & Mrs Merry Miller are back once again for another Saturday!! But with Storm Eunice on the loose it could be a tricky one…

Here we are in Doncaster again but where are we heading next? Corby Town… OFF! Coalville Town… OFF! Hinckley Leicester Road… OFF! Chester FC… Too far… “SIGH” Ramsbottom United… OFF! Melton Town… Maybe! Witton Albion… OFF! Coventry United… Maybe! Kettering Town… Maybe! Melton Town is put in to Google Maps for now, let’s get on the road!

The football playlist is booming for me and the Merry Miller!! Kettering Town are playing York City!! Me and the Merry Miller are licking our lips at the sound of that one!! But we must wait for the Referee to arrive as we glide down the A1. It’s about 1:30pm and the Referee has arrived at Kettering and………. Game OFF… Gutted! We’re down to Melton or Coventry now… It’s like being on Who Wants to be a Millionaire now! If we pick the wrong option, we leave with nothing!

We’re coming into Leicestershire now… The Merry Miller checks Twitter… And we have good news! Both games are on!! If we change direction and head to Coventry United we’ll be there for dead on 3pm… Melton Town is the selected destination! 2:15pm and here are at Melton Sports Village… Which way do we go here?

We’ll take a left and there it is!! And what a nice little walk it is! Even better if it wasn’t raining… £15 concession to get in here! Making it £5 for me! PING! Loughborough Students are the visitors today!! Out come the teams! “Come on Melton!” They’ve got a drum in that stand! Let’s hope for some noise!

Kick Off! 3 minutes in and after a bright start from Loughborough, Melton find themselves in space down the right flank, it’s played into the middle, it comes to Toby Fura for Melton… He goes down… The Referee points for the Penalty! I thought that was soft but a different angle may change my mind! Zak Munton steps up for Melton… And he drills it in!!! What a start for Melton!! 1-0!! The drum is banging now!!

13 minutes in now and Loughborough play a long ball forward to Olusanya Tope Fadahunsi, he gets into the box and plays a 1-2 with George Wilson and he shoots… Wide! Good work there from Loughborough. 3 minutes later and Loughborough have a corner, in it comes… A free header for Fadahunsi… Blocked on the line but it comes to Ethan O’Toole… Is that over the line…? I think so! So does the Linesman who flags and Loughborough are level!! 1-1!! The keeper had it in his grasp but unfortunately for him and Melton, it was most definitely over the line!

Loughborough enjoying large spells of possession as the game goes on and are showing just that little bit more technicality on the ball but Melton look dangerous on the break. 38th minute and Melton win a free kick on the right wing, it’s floated in, it falls to Cameron Gilchrist 6 yards out… Oh no! He’s put it over! It should be 2-1 to Melton! Loughborough continue to enjoy possession more but at half time it remains 1-1.

Second half, 49th minute and Melton get it down the right, Tom Harris crosses, straight to the keeper… But oh no he’s dropped it and Zak Munton is there… It’s there!! A howler from the Loughborough keeper and Melton lead again!! 2-1! Bang goes that drum again!

56 minutes on the clock and Loughborough play down the right, it’s played in low, it’s fallen on a plate for Finlay Brennan… He finishes!!! Loughborough are level again!!! 2-2!! 65 minutes now and Loughborough are taking the game to Melton now! They play down the right wing again, the cross comes in… The wind has got that one! It falls to Dylan Edwards with the goal at his mercy… And he’s put it WIDE! And how!? Sitter!

Loughborough looking the real deal here now! They come forward again, it’s played forward to Anthony Lynn in the box, he makes space for the shot… AND SCORES!!! Good finish! And Loughborough lead for the first time in this game! And deservedly so!! 2-3!!

81st minute now and can Melton mount a fightback here? Can the fans get behind them? Loughborough play down the right again, it’s worked across the box to Dylan Edwards who’s got plenty of time, he can put the game to bed here… NO! He’s put it over! Big chance there for Loughborough! “We can’t let Ron Weasley score!” A cry there from one of the Melton fans there…

84th minute and Melton have a free kick on the edge of the box to the right side, Toby Fura steps up… HE’S DONE IT!!!! The keeper tips it onto the bar but it’s not enough and it goes in off the bar!! It’s 3-3!!! There goes the drum again!! Would you believe it!! “You’re not singing anymore!” From the Melton fans now!

89th minute and Loughborough have a free kick on the edge of the box to the left side now, Finlay Brennan crosses it in, it’s Fadahunsi running in… He’s headed wide! Big chance to win it there for Loughborough! Into stoppage time now and Melton lump the ball forward towards the box, it’s towards number 20, he gets onto it in the box and he shoots on the turn… OH! Just wide! So close! That would be the final chance as the Referee blows for full time! What a game!! Let’s get out of this cold! It’s 1-1 at Coventry United, did we pick the right game? OH YES!!!

FT: Melton Town 3-3 Loughborough Students

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 3/10 – The Melton fans had a drum but only used it for when they scored sadly, if they had used it more, they may have won the match but you never know! Some Melton fans gave it a good go in the other stand and the Loughborough fans certainly enjoyed themselves too! But it wasn’t all too loud sadly…
  • The Ground: 6/10 – It’s a nice little setup! Not too much here but the modern side of the ground is what I like about it! Very picturesque from the one side as well!
  • Expense: 10/10 – £5 for 6 goals and drama!? Take my money!!
  • Overall Experience: 10/10 – I can’t complain with that today! We were lucky to find a game full stop and we were treated to a classic!!
