Jubilee Sports & Social Club, the setting for today’s Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior Ladies League Cup Quarter Final between Oughtibridge WMFC and Dronfield Town. A new experience for me today as it’s my first ever Ladies open age match that I will be attending after so much persuasion from the Merry Miller who I would be joining today.
A first visit to Jubilee Sports Club for me which is the home of Jubilee Sports who play in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior Premier Division and are based in Hillsborough, Sheffield. Arrival in the ground with 15 minutes to kick off, so far so good! Free Entry to this Quarter Final tie! Still so far, so good!! Let’s hope it’s a good game!!
Kick Off! 2 minutes in and Dronfield have the ball in the Oughtibridge half, a through ball to number 12 in the box, big chance here! The shot… Deflected and… Side netting just! So close! Corner, in it comes, cleared by Oughtibridge.
Dronfield looking the better team so far in this match. 15 minutes on the clock and Dronfield play a long ball from their own half, number 18 chases it, the Oughtibridge keeper is committed… Number 18 gets there first and she must score… And has!! 1-0! And thoroughly deserved on the balance of play!
1 minute later and Dronfield have lost the ball in their own half, the ball is squared to Oughtibridge’s number 11 25 yards out and she shoots first time… Over! 18 minutes now and Oughtibridge have possession in their own half now, oh dear that’s not a good pass back to the keeper there and here’s number 12 for Dronfield… Good save by the keeper and it’s a corner for Dronfield, in comes the corner, number 8 with the header!! Over! Goal kick.
24 minutes gone and Oughtibridge are coming into the game a lot more now and they have the ball on the left with number 11, she cuts inside on the edge of the box and goes for it… Just over! Close there! 28 minutes now and Oughtibridge come down the left again with number 11, she drives it in low, number 17 is there… And scores!!! It’s 1-1!! Tap in there for number 17 and we are level!
1 minute later and Dronfield have the ball in midfield, a good move there and they get the ball down the left, the low cross comes in, all the way to number 12… Great finish!! What a response from Dronfield!! 1-2! Number 12 at the far post and placed into the bottom corner!
37 minutes on the clock now and Dronfield have a throw in on the right in the Oughtibridge half, in it comes and Dronfield play a long diagonal ball to the left, number 9 gets it and drives into the box, shoots… Good save by the keeper! Corner, in it comes and Oughtibridge head away. 44 minutes now and Oughtibridge have a free kick on the halfway line, lumped into the box, “KEEPERS!” Oh dear she’s dropped it and… She gets it back, just! So close to a howler there! The Referee blows for half time to bring to an end an eventful first half!
Second half, 2 minutes into the second half and Oughtibridge win the ball back high up the field, played through to number 4 who goes for it first time! Just wide! 1 minute later and Dronfield win possession in midfield, played out to the right, driven in low and here’s number 18… It’s in!! It’s 3 for Dronfield and they are looking really good now!
49 minutes on the clock now and number 11 receives the ball for Oughtibridge on the left, she drives down the left and gets into the box, goes for goal… Good save by the Dronfield keeper and it’s a corner for Oughtibridge. In comes the corner, keeper comes and gets there but Oughtibridge have it… But can’t capitalise and Dronfield clear.
51 minutes now and Oughtibridge have another corner, in it comes, number 3 with the free header… Off the post!! It comes to number 5… OH IT’S OFF THE BAR!! Dronfield clear it somehow… massive chance there for Oughtibridge!
61 minutes now and Dronfield come down the left, in comes the cross… Keeper has to get there and does, it’s dangerous and here’s number 10 to tap in… Has that crossed the line? “Yes” says the Referee and it’s 1-4! Oughtibridge thought they’d cleared but it definitely looked over from my view and has this game got away from Oughtibridge now?
71 minutes gone now and Oughtibridge play a long ball forward, the bounce has beaten the Dronfield defender and number 17 pounces onto it, she gets to the edge of the box and goes for goal… And finds it!! Great hit! And it’s 2-4 now!
Oughtibridge are starting to go for it now! Could we have a grandstand finish here? 78 minutes gone now and Dronfield have lost possession in midfield, Oughtibridge play a through ball to number 11 and she’s in… AND SCORES!!! 3-4! And it’s not all over yet! What a game this has been! 12 minutes left and can Oughtibridge find an equaliser?
80th minute and Oughtibridge have a corner, in it comes, number 3 with the header… Off the line but not far and it’s number 14… GOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL!! 4-4!! Unbelievable!! The header from number 3 is cleared but only to number 14 at point blank to steer home and from 4-1 down Oughtibridge have levelled it at 4-4! How about that!!!?
It’s a very tense game now! Probably the least open it has been since the game kicked off… 85 minutes on the clock and Dronfield come down the left again with number 9, she gets into a crossing position and… OHHHHHH! WHAT A GOAL!!!!!! 4-5!! She went for goal and found it magnificently!! A goal worthy of winning any game!! Keeper no chance there! Absolute bullet from a tight angle!
87 minutes now, Dronfield come again, a through ball to number 19 and she’s through… It’s there!! And that surely is the game for Dronfield! 4-6! Wow! Great finish 1 on 1 there! Into the 90th minute now and Dronfield win the ball back in midfield, the ball is played to number 9 on the right and she goes for the curler… And what a goal that is!!! WHAT A GOAL THAT IS!! Another absolute peach from number 9 and that is for certain now, game, set & match to Dronfield! And for the first time ever for me, an 11 goal game!! 4-7! Who said Women’s football was bad!!?

- Atmosphere: 2/10 – Not any chanting but you could definitely tell there was a crowd there!
- The Ground: 6/10 – A lovely little ground I have to say, quite picturesque too! I shall definitely be revisiting to see the home team play here next season perhaps.
- Expense: 10/10 – I paid nothing to see that game!!! It should be 12/10!!
- Overall Experience: 10/10 – Me and the Merry Miller have never seen a 0-0 and we have seen some absolute crackers, but that today was up there with the best!! Absolutely incredible!! I shall definitely be watching more Ladies games soon!!
