Another Friday night Pre-Season game as Pinxton play Grantham Town Academy. I was going to visit Pinxton last week for the visit of Ollerton Town but that game went down and I went to Heanor instead but they’re on tonight! Let’s hope it’s a cracker as always!
Into my car and through Woodseats, past Chesterfield and onto the M1 for a few miles and into Pinxton which sees me here with about 20 minutes to go before kick off. £3 to watch this game! Stupendous!
Kick Off! 4 minutes in and Pinxton play down the right, it’s played to number 10 on the edge of the box, he chests it and shoots on the volley… Oh that’s brilliant!! A casual effortless volley and it’s 1-0 to Pinxton! Keeper flat footed…
Pinxton starting the better of the 2 teams here! 14 minutes in and they come down the right again, they get into the box and the cross comes in, it’s number 10 again… He can’t get his header right and it’s wide.
20th minute and Grantham come forward, it’s played to number 36 and he drives into the box on the left… Down he goes… The Referee… Has given a free kick to Pinxton? That’s a poor decision there for me! That’s a Penalty! Pinxton out of jail.
29 minutes now and Pinxton have the ball in defence, it’s played back to the keeper… He’s under pressure here with 2 Grantham players pressing… Keeper beats the first man… He’s lost it and number 35 must score… He rolls it in… TAXI! Get your mistakes out of you in pre-season… Poor from the keeper there! 1-1!
35th minute and Pinxton play down the right wing again, it’s played across low… Keeper tries to get there… He doesn’t and number 10 taps home! Pinxton lead again! 2-1!
3 minutes later and Pinxton have a corner, in it comes… Headed at goal… Number 4 slides for it… And he guides it home!! Pinxton have scored again! It’s 3-1!! Pinxton continue to shine and lead 3-1 at half time.
Second half, 50th minute and Grantham play forward, number 42 is played through and he’s onside here, he’s in… And he scores! 3-2! Game on here!
4 minutes later and Grantham come forward, the ball is played forward to number 32 and he’s shrugged off his man, he gets into the box from the left and he’s in, he shoots… Keeper gets a leg to it but it’s not enough and Grantham are LEVEL! 3-3!
62 minutes now and Grantham are looking dangerous from every attack! Grantham come again, it’s played to number 35, he’s about 25 yards out and he goes for goal…. OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! WHAT ABOUT THAT!? Right into the top bin! This game has been turned on it’s head! A fantastic strike! 3-4! Grantham lead for the first time in the game!
69 minutes now and Pinxton come forward now, it’s played through to number 11 who gets into the box on the right, good sliding challenge there and it’s out for a cor… No! The Referee has pointed to the spot… That’s a shocking decision! That was a great challenge! The Penalty is given and Pinxton have a chance to level. Number 6 steps up… SAVED! Justice has been done…
But the Referee has blown and it will be retaken… Maybe not… Keeper off his line… Second chance for number 6… He scores this time! And it’s 4-4!!
What a game this is! 77th minute and Grantham have a throw-in on the right, it’s a long one… It comes to number 42 on the edge of the box, he turns and gets his shot away… AND HE SCORES!!! It’s raining goals here in Pinxton tonight!! 4-5!! Grantham lead again!
2 minutes later and here come Grantham again, it’s played out right to number 41 and he plays it to number 42 in the box and he shoots… Good save! Pinxton clear the danger.
82nd minute and Grantham win the ball back in the Pinxton half, it’s played through to number 41 and he’s through on goal here… AND HE’S SCORED!!! And that surely is the game for Grantham now after a fantastic second half performance from them! What a game this has been! 4-6!
Can Pinxton make a game of it now? 90th minute and they’ve got a corner, in it comes… They win the header but it rolls wide… And that is that! What a game that was!! Only pre-season as well!

- Atmosphere: 1/10 – A fair few in tonight but it was dead sadly.
- The Ground: 6/10 – I really like this ground! There isn’t much here but they sure have made the most of what they have got! The banking behind the far goal offers a great view and not just of the pitch! My only criticism is the clear fence which a few people were watching the game from tonight which could cost the club a bit of revenue down the line… Other than that it is a good ground in my opinion!
- Expense: 10/10 – £3 entry, £.60 food & £0 fuel… 10 goals? What else would the score be?
- Overall Experience: 10/10 – A fantastic game tonight! One of the best ever! Another full marks!
