The Golden Ball Ground, home of Renishaw Miners Welfare based in Derbyshire and play their trade in the Chesterfield Sunday League Division One.
Easy like a Sunday morning and today it’s a derby match between Renishaw Miners Welfare and Clowne Wanderers. Fingers crossed we see a high scoring drama filled game!!
The short drive past Birley and Eckington just across the Derbyshire border and here I am at the ground just in time for kick off.
Kick Off! 2 minutes in and Renishaw play down the right, it’s crossed in, it falls nicely for number 10 in the six yard box and he gets his shot away…… And he’s somehow dragged it wide! What a chance that was early on!
Great to see Mark here this morning and to hear about the great grounds of the Sunday League! As for the game well… It’s certainly the opposite of what I’d hoped it would be…
39th minute… Yes that long! Clowne win the ball in the Renishaw half, it’s played to number 9 running into the box on the right and he shoots… Good save! Tipped wide! Corner, in it comes… It’s cleared.
43rd minute and Renishaw play a long throw into the box from the left, number 10 gets there… But is header is just over!
45th minute and the ball comes for Renishaw’s number 10 just outside the box, he beats the defenders and gets into the box, he slides for it and that’s a foul! Yellow card! Could have been more!
Into added time in the first half and… Oh dear! Tempers are flaring, Renishaw’s number 10 fouls a Clowne defender and is involved in the melee… A shove there! No second yellow there! He’s lucky! He has been substituted now.
Play goes on… Clowne goal kick, it comes for number 8 who controls and shoots from about 35 yards out… AND FINDS THE NET!! WHAT! A! GOAL!! 0-1! Have that! The Referee blows for half time just after the restart. That wasn’t in the script was it?!
Second half, 48 minutes now and Renishaw come forward, it’s played into the box, it’s headed away to the right, it’s played back in, number 6 with the header… OH he’s missed! Another big chance!
55th minute and it’s a free kick on the right for Clowne, it’s crossed in, it’s flicked at goal… Saved!
70 minutes gone and Renishaw long throw in from the left, it’s flicked on, number 7 is there… And he heads it home! They’ve got it!! 1-1! They’re racing back for the restart now! Can Renishaw turn this game on it’s head?!
77th minute and Renishaw’s number 10 has it on the edge of the box, the shot… Blocked! Clowne break, number 9 has got the pace on the Renishaw defender and he’s in, he’s around the keeper and he shoots at a tight angle… And it’s trickled in! Oh no for Renishaw… 1-2!
81 minutes now and it’s another long throw from the right for Renishaw, it comes for number 11 in the box on the left to strike… Good save!
87th minute and Clowne break down the left and they get into the box, it’s played across… OH! And it’s gone in off the defender… Clowne go crazy! It looks like they have won it! 1-3!
Play goes on… It’s just not been Renishaw’s day has it…?! Game over! Clowne have won it!
