Castle Vale Stadium, home of Romulus FC based in Birmingham, West Midlands and play their trade in Step 5 of the Non League Pyramid in the Midland Football League Premier Division. Nicknamed the “Roms” as it’s short for the name ‘Romulus’.
It’s a club that does play on Monday nights every now and then and tonight they are at home again against Studley FC… Sod it! Let’s tick it off on a Monday! I’m off! I did earlier in the day have a look at tickets for Derby vs West Ham but Pride Park can wait as I’m sure Derby County will be in the Play-Offs this season. Let’s tick a new ground off!
Onto the M1, to the A42 and now the M42 and into Castle Vale and in the ground with about 20 minutes till kick off. £7 for the this West Midlands game! Tasty! A little lap of the pitch and now for the teams to come out, it’s Monday Night live in the West Midlands, don’t let me down!
Kick Off! Is that a familiar face? Yes it is! Greg is here from Crewe and thankfully not wearing any Man City colours! Smashing!
15 minutes in and Romulus have a free kick from around 35 yards, Umar Zaman goes to blast it… Oooooh! It’s tipped onto the bar and over! Close! But it is a corner, in it comes… It’s headed out for another, in it comes again… Cleared by Studley.
2 minutes later and Studley break forward, number 10 is played through and he gets into the box, he shoots… Saved! they’re there for the rebound… Just wide but still in play as Romulus retrieve.
20th minute and Romulus get into the box, he cuts inside, he’s brought down… The Referee waves it away! Stone wall for me! Studley clear and win a free kick. The Referee has a word with a furious Romulus bench! I’d be furious too in all fairness!
24th minute and Romulus lose it in their own half, Studley’s number 9 gets it and charges into the box and he shoots… Side netting! He has to do better there and he knows it! Big chance!
3 minutes later and this game is speeding up big time! Studley down the left, it’s crossed in, Mikkel Hirst heads it at his own goal… OH! It’s off the top of the bar and out for a corner, what an Own Goal that would have been but it is a corner and here it comes… Cleared by Romulus.
34 minutes gone and Romulus break forward, it’s played to Umar Zaman in the box on the left, he’s got time and he shoots… He’s missed! He’s put it over! Big chance again! The game has slowed down and it remains 0-0 at half time but great game and great to speak with some of the Romulus bench so far.
Second half, 48th minute and Romulus come forward, it’s played through to Dylan Hadley who gets into the box, and he’s in… ANNNNNNNDDDDDDD HE FINISHES!!!! Romulus have the lead! It’s 1-0!
60th minute and can Studley get back into this? They come forward, they play a ball over the top for number 14 in the box who controls and he shoots… Saved! Good save as well!
Studley are looking to get back into this but Romulus are looking pretty comfortable in all fairness but the Romulus manager is maintaining high standards here! He wants to win this one!!
82 minutes now and Studley down the right and win a corner, Romulus manager not happy with the restart of play earlier and the Referee is going over to him… It’s a second yellow for him and he’s off! Red card! Oh dear! Corner for Studley, in it comes… Keeper gets a hand and tips it wide for another, in it comes again… Cleared by Romulus.
Studley keep on pressing… But it’s Romulus’ night here!
FT: Romulus 1-0 Studley
Ratings
- Atmosphere: 1/10 – Dead…
- The Ground: 5/10 – It’s alright! It’s basically a 3G cage with a stand but it’s a very good stand with a lovely bar! The stand is what makes this ground for me!
- Expense: 9/10 – £30 for fuel and £7 for the game, was it worth it? Nearly! More goals next time!
- Overall Experience: 8/10 – Great to Greg again after a long time! Lovely to speak with the Romulus bench as well and another good game in the lower leagues of the West Midlands! Always competitive games in these parts.
