Sheffield FA Women’s County Cup Quarter Final 2022/23

Storth Lane, the setting for today’s Sheffield FA County Cup Quarter Final between Kiveton Park Ladies and Doncaster Rovers Belles.

My second visit to this ground with the first one being a 3-1 loss to Kiveton Park to Handsworth Ladies. Today I will be assisting Match Days Joe on commentary again for the Belles.

So onto Sheffield Parkway and onto the A57 and into Wales High School with around 10 minutes to go before kick off. A brand new 3G pitch here at Storth Lane! I’ve seen it as a grass pitch and now as a cage. Free entry here today! Marvellous! Match Days Joe is here along with a decent sized crowd! Out come the teams, will the magic of the cup strike here today? Let’s find out!

Kick Off! Belles down the right straight away, the cross comes in… Keeper misses it and here’s number 2 for the Belles… She misses the ball and Kiveton get it away.

The Belles are totally in control here so far and it looks only a matter of time before they break the deadlock, the 3 league difference between the 2 teams is showing so far.

15 minutes now and Belles play a long ball looking for number 17 running into the box on the right, keeper comes for it… Number 17 gets there first and shoots… Saved but it comes for number 9 who cuts inside in the box on her left foot to surely score… And she’s missed! What a chance there for the Belles but number 9 has rolled it wide…

27 minutes on the watch and Belles play down the left, it’s crossed in, number 14 is free… She’s put it wide… Could she have headed that…?

33rd minute and Belles play it forward to number 17 who drives into the box on the left, she shoots… It’s saved but it’s loose in the goalmouth… It’s turned in! Number 7 running in to make certain and the Belles do have the lead they deserve! 0-1!

Right on half time and it’s a corner for the Belles, in it comes… It’s come of the back of number 16’s head… Keeper saves and that is that for the first half with the score at 1-0.

Second half, 52 minutes now and Belles hit it forward, it’s played to number 12 in the box on the left and she goes for the far corner… Just wide!

3 minutes later and Belles play down the left, it’s crossed in… Keeper punches but number 7 gets it back and sets herself up to volley from point blank… OH! Somehow she’s blazed it over… Another sitter from the Belles! Could there be a sting in the tale here?

63 minutes gone and the Belles have the ball in the Kiveton half with number 26, she goes for goal from distance and that is dipping… Tipped onto the bar and here’s number 17 in space and must score… OH WHAT A SAVE! WHAT A DOUBLE SAVE!! Somehow the keeper claws it away but number 7 has got to put that in either way! It is a corner and it’s played to number 26 who will cross, number 17 goes for the looping header at the far post… Keeper gets there and Kiveton clear.

70th minute and Kiveton break free on the right wing, they get into the box and it’s played across to number 12, she gets to it and shoots… Blocked… The keeper claims the loose ball. Big chance there for Kiveton.

3 minutes later and Belles play a long ball forward, the keeper comes… She gets there and it’s loose… It’s played to number 9 who shoots from 25 yards… And she finds the net!! Belles do get their second goal! 0-2!

79th minute now and Belles come forward again, number 9 is played through in the box and she drives at goal… And finishes!! That should be that now for the Belles! 0-3!

86 minutes now and Belles play down the right, it’s crossed in, number 12 is there… It’s another one! Kiveton Park are out of steam after a game of resilient defending. 0-4! The Belles keep on pressing but it will stay at 4 and they are into the Semi-Final!
