Clifden Park, home of Mullion FC based in Cornwall and compete in Step 6 of the Non League Pyramid in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division West. Nicknamed the “Seagulls” with one featuring on the club crest.
For the second time ever! I am back in the South West! A part of the UK that I want to see more of: Cornwall! I’m staying in Penzance for a few nights and I have 3 games lined up! Part one of the Cornwall trip is Mullion FC vs Truro City Reserves! Let’s have it!
The six hour drive here is complete and now for another 45 minute drive across the A30 through Lizard and into Mullion with around 20 minutes till kick off. £6 to get in here! Beautiful! I have to admire this view! But we will save the ratings until the end as the teams walk out on to the field. It’s part one of the Cornish football trip! Let battle commence!
Kick Off! 3 minutes in and Mullion have the ball on the right as the Truro left back misreads the header and Mullion get the cross in and they have a man free at the back stick… And somehow he’s put it wide! Big chance there in the opening stages!
9th minute and Mullion come forward, it’s lofted into the middle and it’s headed towards GOAL… OH! It’s tipped onto the bar! Truro get it into the hands of the keeper! What a save that was!
4 minutes later and confusion at the back and Truro have a free kick inside the penalty area here… Not sure what happened there…? The wall is lined up and here comes the shot… It’s blocked! Mullion get it clear.
18 minutes in and Mullion are looking really good here! They get into the box and the shot comes in… Keeper tips it over again! The corner comes in… Truro clear.
28th minute and Mullion have it down the left, it’s played across and it falls nicely for Brodie Kemp… Who finishes!! Mullion deservedly in the lead here! 1-0!
As the half goes on it’s becoming clear that it’s surely only a matter of time before Mullion make it 2 but they still haven’t… 43 minutes on the watch and here come Truro, it’s played out to the right and the man gets into the box to shoot… Over!
Mullion continue to press and shoot at goal but are only 1 goal to the good at half time.
Second half, 50th minute and Mullion chase the ball into the left of the box with the keeper committed… Brodie Kemp gets there first and he plays it across and here’s Jack Noy… He gets his shot away… Truro can’t keep it out and Mullion finally double their lead!! 2-0!
3 minutes later and Mullion press on, the shot comes in from the edge of the box and the keeper has parried it and here’s Dan Greet… He finishes! And it’s 3! He couldn’t miss! 3-0!
4 minutes after that and a long ball forward by Truro sees Ben Shaw chase it with the keeper… Shaw gets there first… And he’ll score!! Perhaps Truro aren’t finished yet! 3-1!
71 minutes now and Truro have it down the left, it’s crossed in… Ben Shaw is there again… And he’s beaten the keeper!! Now then! 3-2! Have we got a grandstand finish here?!
3 minutes later and Mullion have a corner, in it comes… It’s headed at goal… It’s headed back to a Truro man who takes a touch… Oooooh! His second touch has caught a Mullion man and that surely is a Penalty… It is! Penalty to Mullion! Jack Noy steps up… And scores! 4-2! That should settle the nerves!
80 minutes on the clock and Mullion have the ball on the right, it’s crossed in… Harry Roberts is there at the back post… And he finds the net! That should settle it now! 5-2!
Mullion continue to press for more… But will have to settle for 5!

- Atmosphere: 1/10 – Really quiet unfortunately…
- The Ground: 7/10 – Very basic with the stand, nice clubhouse but it’s all about the view! So picturesque it’s beautiful!!
- Expense: 8/10 – An awful lot of fuel… But £6 to enter and £3.50 for a pin badge isn’t all that bad!
- Overall Experience: 7/10 – Great game great ground and great to be in Cornwall again!
