AFC Barnby Dun

Moor Lane, home of AFC Barnby Dun based in Kirk Sandall, Doncaster, South Yorkshire and play their games in the Doncaster Sunday League. A new experience today as this is my first Sunday League match which will hopefully not let me down as I reach a milestone of 100 grounds!!! The final game of the season and they play host to Carcroft Village.

Train to Doncaster to meet Mr and Mrs Merry Miller and off we go to Kirk Sandall. Into the ground just in time for kick off! Free entry to this Sunday League match! Expected…

Kick Off! A competitive start by both teams enjoying plenty of possession. 9 minutes in and Barnby play a ball over the top for number 2 to run on to, keeper comes out but number 2 will get there first, goes for the lob… Over! 14 minutes gone and Barnby play forward again, number 10 receives it on the right, he plays it to number 22 who charges into the box, he lobs the defender and the keeper comes out… He slots it home!! Great finish and it’s 1-0!!

19 minutes on the clock and Carcroft play a long ball forward, number 9 chases it and gets to it and goes for goal first time… Just over!! Both teams are enjoying spells of possession and are coming forward but can’t quite find that finishing touch here so far.

36 minutes now and Carcroft come forward, the ball is played to number 7 on the left, he cuts inside to the edge of the box and goes for it… OH! Just wide… So close! Right on half time now and Carcroft come down the right now, the low cross comes in, poor clearance by Barnby straight to Carcroft’s number 11 in the box, he sets up number 7 on the edge of the box to shoot which he does… Deflected… And in!!! 1-1!! That would be the last action of the half and the score remained 1-1.

Second half, 51 minutes on the clock and Barnby come forward now, the ball falls to number 17 in the box, he makes space for the shot… He’s hit the post and… The keeper collects! So close there! It’s becoming an end to end affair here, I feel there is another goal in this! But who would get it?

65 minutes in and Carcroft come forward down the right, the cross comes in, number 7 with the header… He’s hit the post!! Barnby clear! “F*** Sake!!” Number 7 shouts. The frustration is clear… 67 minutes now and Carcroft come forward again, the ball is played to number 14 with the ball bouncing, he’s 25 yards out and he goes for it!! OHHHHH! IT’S A BEAUTY!!! PICK THAT ONE OUT!! 1-2!! And what a goal that is on the volley and it loops over the keeper into the roof of the net! Spectacular! I didn’t think the scoring had finished in this game.

Both teams are still creating chances here but no one can find the target at the moment. 90th minute and Barnby lose it at the back, number 8 for Carcroft picks it up and he gets into the box, he shoots… Keeper saves but here’s number 15 for the rebound!! He’s scuffed it wide… One of those days for both teams…

One last chance for Barnby, they have it in midfield, a through ball to number 21 who runs on to it… And the Referee has blown for full time… Number 21 is not happy with that! But Carcroft couldn’t care less! Game over!

Off we go… The ball is in the goal! Let’s have a quick kick about!

Can the Merry Miller score? Yes!
Can I score? Yes!!
Can Hannah score? Yes… Poor goalkeeping!
Can I bend it like Beckham? Oh yes!!
Can Jack hit the bar? No!

Off we go down the Kirk Sandall train tunnel for another game!!
