Alwoodley FC

Alwoodley Community Hall, The Avenue, home of Alwoodley FC based in Leeds, West Yorkshire and play their trade in the Yorkshire Amateur League. Alwoodley play host today to Gomersal & Cleckheaton in a friendly today, let’s hope it’s a cracker! Free entry to this one!! Yeah Yeah!!

Kick Off! Both teams enjoying a fair share of possession with Gomersal looking just a bit more threatening to start with. 10 minutes gone and Gomersal come forward, the ball is loose and falls to number 6 and he hits it with hope… OH HE’S SCORED!!! WHAT A SHOT!! Don’t know if he meant it but what a goal!!!! Straight into the top corner 0-1!

Gomersal starting to take control of the game and dominate possession now. 27 minutes gone and Gomersal have the ball on the left hand side, the cross comes in, number 9 is free… It’s 0-2!!! The Alwoodley defence furious with each other as number 9 is completely unmarked 6 yards out to tap home and Gomersal are cruising here!

Half an hour gone and Gomersal continue to press and they have the ball on the right hand side with number 9, he tries a low cross… Keeper collects, not this time. 33 minutes on the watch now and number 9 is away again on the right for Gomersal, he drives into the box and pulls it back, it’s number 8 for Gomersal!!! It’s just wide… He rolls the shot just wide of the post, Alwoodley defenders not happy with each other again!

40 minutes gone now and Alwoodley with the ball now, they come forward and the ball is given to Alwoodley’s number 9, he finds space 20 yards out and shoots… Deflected… OFF THE POST!! And a chance for a rebound… But no he’s offside. Best chance of the game so far for Alwoodley. 3 minutes later and Gomersal come forward again and win a corner, in it comes, headed towards goal… Off the line and away! That would be the last chance of the half and the score at half time remained 0-2.

Second half, even share of possession again to start the half but will it continue? 52 minutes and Gomersal have a free kick in a good crossing position, the cross comes in and a header… It’s off the bar and has it bounced over the line? “No!” Says the Referee. Not too sure from my view there. Alwoodley clear but Gomersal regain possession and come again on the left hand side, the cross comes in and finds number 9 completely unmarked and must score… And does!! 0-3 and that should be game over!

The game starting to slow down now with both teams not creating any clear cut chances now. 67 minutes and Gomersal on the right, the ball is flicked on to number 7… Shot blocked and over the bar for a corner. The corner comes in and cleared by Alwoodley.

74 minutes gone and Alwoodley have the ball in defence… They’ve lost it and the ball falls to number 10, the keeper is off his line… He’s been lobbed!!! 0-4!! A silly goal for Alwoodley to concede but it’s happened, the defender there for Alwoodley too slow and number 10 lobs the keeper from outside the box and seals the game for Gomersal! The game fizzled out after that and the score remained 0-4 at the end.

FT: Alwoodley FC 0-4 Gomersal & Cleckheaton
