Boldmere St Michael’s Women

The Trevor Brown Memorial Ground, home of Boldmere St Michael’s Women based in Boldmere, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, West Midlands and compete in the Women’s National League Division One Midlands. A good weekend in Wolverhampton with Match Days Joe has come to an end… But it would never be in our true fashion to not finish it off in style!! Before we make our tracks home, Joe’s beloved Doncaster Rovers Belles are in town playing away at Boldmere St Michael’s not too far from where we’ve stayed, let’s have it!!!

The tram from Wolves back into Birmingham and then the short train journey over to Chester Road and here we are… A massive 2 hours before kick off… How do we kill time here then? The teams are starting to arrive now so good start there. Great to meet Kev from Switch Sports who Joe will be co-commentating with here today for the game! We will call him Commentator Kev for future reference.

Lovely to be invited into the Hospitality Suite of the ground here where the commentary box will be setup. Teams are out for their pre-match warm ups as time kicks on. Finally after a long wait, the players are in the tunnel! Free Entry for this one! Beautiful!

Kick Off! Both teams getting to grips with the game so far. 12 minutes gone and Doncaster Belles have the ball in the Boldmere half, a through ball is played to Jasmine Saxton… A heavy first touch just gets away from her and the keeper collects. 16 minutes now and Boldmere play forward down the right wing, it’s crossed in low for Stephanie Weston… She’s missed the ball completely but here’s Tanya Dickinson for Boldmere… Great save! But she’s there for the rebound… Kept out again! But Dickinson gets it back again… This time she bundles it in!! No one tracking her run in there… And the home team have the lead here!! 1-0!

Boldmere looking the better side so far and are looking a threat coming forward but the Belles have had a few chances themselves but Boldmere looking the stronger of the 2 teams so far. 38 minutes on the clock and Boldmere come forward again, played through to Rhiannon Travers on the right and she gets into the box and plays it across… But it’s within the keeper’s reach and the Belles keeper claims it. At half time the score remains 1-0.

A new experience for me now as Commentator Kev has kindly invited me to join him and Match Days Joe in the commentary team!! This should be fun! Hope the listeners ear drums will be ok at the final whistle…

Second half, Doncaster Belles have started the brighter here. 53 minutes played and the Belles play forward, they get it out to the right wing, played in low to Nadia Khan who shoots… She’s hit the bar!!!! So close! Boldmere clear.

62nd minute now and Boldmere break from a Belles attack, a through ball to Rhiannon Travers and she’s beaten the Belles defence… She takes one touch too many and is seen off wide but she gets it across with the keeper committed… Vital touch away there from Belles’ Tilly Fantom.

65 minutes now and Belles come down the right again, crossed in to Isabelle Trevillion… Blocked but the Belles still have it, played out to the right again to Sophie Bell to cross… She’s hit the bar! Close again for the Belles!

78th minute and Boldmere have a corner, in it comes… Keeper flaps at it… But it goes wide for another corner, in comes that corner… Belles clear. 2 minutes later and the Belles play the ball to Lindsey Tugby on the left, she cuts inside on the edge of the box and shoots… Blocked! But it comes for Lily Harrison… She can’t control it and it comes nicely for the keeper.

Into the last 10 minutes now and the Belles are in control now, a ball played forward by the Belles… Was that a hand in the box there by Boldmere? “No!” Says the Referee but the Belles still have it, played to the left of the box for Nadia Khan, she takes a touch forward and she’s been brought down there… The Referee has waved it away again… Very clumsy by the Boldmere defender there, i thought that was a penalty!

88th minute and Belles are really pushing for the equaliser now, will they find it? They play down the middle and play it to Jess Price who’s around 20 yards out from goal, she goes for goal… Wide! Into stoppage time now and Belles are knocking on the door still, out to the right wing and it’s played in, Nadia Khan gets it and she plays it to Niamh Doody to shoot… What a block by Boldmere! And they clear! Belles keep on coming… The Referee blows for full time! A great win for Boldmere!

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 1/10 – Not too many here today and no noise from them sadly.
  • The Ground: 9/10 – A lovely ground! From a facilities perspective it’s got an awful lot! A lovely Hospitality Suite with a great view, another bar behind one of the goals, a bowls club behind the ground, 2 mini football pitches behind the other goal and the stand at one side with a slightly elevated view. A great ground for the level too!
  • Expense: 10/10 – Free Entry with goals means only one thing!
  • Overall Experience: 9.5/10 – Great to have another game with Match Days Joe again! Fantastic to met Commentator Kev and for letting me make my commentary debut on Switch Sport! A big thank you to the very warm and friendly staff here at Boldmere for treating us like royalty in the Hospitality Suite! Great to get post match interviews with both managers today! The only thing missing from today was a Doncaster Belles goal…

29.5/40
