Sutton Coldfield Town

Coles Lane, home of Sutton Coldfield Town based in the West Midlands and play their trade in Step 4 of the non league pyramid in the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands. Nicknamed the “Royals” as the town is historically known as the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield. Back in the West Midlands for the second weekend in a row just down the road from Boldmere where I was last Sunday and I will be meeting Commentator Kev for this one too! Bring it on! Daventry Town are the visitors to Coles Lane today.

The train from Sheffield to Birmingham New Street once again… Starting to know this route very well! A quick change to the Four Oaks line and off I go to Sutton Coldfield! 20 minutes later and here we are! Now for the walk to the ground.

Here we are with plenty of time to go before kick off! £10 to get in here! Nicely done! Commentator Kev is here in the gantry ready to go and what a view the gantry offers here! Time goes on and out come the players! “We’re the Sutton boys! Making all the noise! Everywhere we go! A bit of noise from the Sutton fans now! But before kick off and with remembrance day fast approaching, we must all pay our respects to those who fought for us! We WILL remember them!

Kick Off! “Royals! Royals!” The Sutton Ultras as they are known as certainly living up to that name so far and they’ve brought every instrument there is too! 2 minutes in and Daventry play forward down the right, it’s played to Jack Bowen, he sees the keeper off his line and he goes for goal from 35 yards… OOOHHHHHH HE’S DONE IT!!!! What a hit!!! WHAT A START FOR DAVENTRY!!! The ball loops over the keeper and finds the net! Wow! 0-1!

The Sutton fans stunned… But their spirit isn’t broken! That’s for sure! 14th minute and Sutton have a throw in on the right, played in, it comes for Leo Brown, he makes space in the box for the shot… Good save! Daventry clear. “Oh when the Royals go marching in! I wanna be in that number!”

Sutton having more of the possession in the game so far but too many aimless long balls into the final third is costing them so far. Daventry looking dangerous in the final third and very organised at the back so far. 33 minutes on the watch, Sutton have the ball in their own half… Given away cheaply there by the Sutton defence and Taylor Orosz gets onto it for Daventry and he drives forward, he gets to the edge of the box and shoots… Straight at the keeper… Sutton beware here!

39th minute and Sutton have a corner, played in… Punched away by the keeper but Sutton retrieve it, they work it out to the left, played in again, it comes for Ryan Nesbitt to shoot… Good save again by the keeper and it’s another corner for Sutton, in it comes… Daventry clear.

Right on half time and Sutton come forward, they play it out wide to the right, crossed in, towards James Beresford… Keeper saves again! Corner, in it comes… Over everyone and out for a Daventry throw in. At half time the score remains 0-1.

Second half, back on commentary for the second half just like Boldmere last week! Thank you Kev! 48 minutes played and Daventry play down the left wing, played in low into the middle towards Luke Emery who takes a touch and goes for it… He’s missed the ball completely and Sutton clear. 2 minutes later and Daventry have a throw in on the left, they win the ball and play in a low cross, it comes to Nat Gornal Tyler and he shoots… And he scores!!!! Daventry double their money here! Great finish! 0-2!!

“Oh when the Royals go marching in!” The Sutton Ultras have not been broken! 55 minutes on the clock and Sutton win a free kick in a good shooting position, Maxwell Brogan steps up… Well over… Looking like one of those days for Sutton sadly for them…

62nd minute and Daventry have a free kick in the Sutton half, lumped into the box, headed away by Sutton but only to Adam Confue on the edge of the box, he scuffs his first attempt but he’s got another go at it… Over!

Sutton piling on the pressure now! Can they make a game of this here? 79th minute and Sutton play a long ball into the box towards Ryan Nesbitt… He’s taken out from behind there! Referee points to the spot! Penalty! Definite Penalty for me that! Ryan Nesbitt who won it will step up… And score!! 1-2! Game on!!

83 minutes on the clock and Daventry play forward, a 1-2 played on the edge of the box comes back to Aiden Print… He’s done it!!! 1-3!! And surely that is the game for Daventry now just when Sutton had got themselves back into it.

85 minutes now and Sutton play forward again, they have it on the right wing with Jamie Ashmore, he crosses, headed away by Daventry but only to Sutton’s Harry Eden who goes for the volley… OH! So close! Tipped wide by the keeper. Corner for Sutton, whipped in… Cleared by Daventry.

Into stoppage time now and Sutton play a long ball forward… Daventry don’t deal with it and Ryan Nesbitt is in on goal in the box… Good save again by the keeper! Last minute of added time and Daventry have a corner, played short, he beats his man and gets into the box, played across… No one gets there but Daventry win it on the left, it’s played across low to Nat Gornal Tyler to shoot first time… Straight at the keeper! The Referee blows for full time straight after! Great win for Daventry! A poor day at the office for Sutton…

FT: Sutton Coldfield Town 1-3 Daventry Town

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 4/10 – A great effort from the Sutton Ultras! Noise throughout and with extra instruments too! Not the loudest I’ve heard and on a better day, they may have had more to shout about, but nonetheless a great fan base!
  • The Ground: 8/10 – It’s a nice ground! Great character with the walls painted in the club’s colours! 2 stands with the main one offering a great vantage point! As non league as you can get here!
  • Expense: 9/10 – A very good tight game I saw here today! Very good! Especially for £10!
  • Overall Experience: 9/10 – Great to see Commentator Kev again today and to have my thoughts shared again on Switch Sport! Very friendly people here at Sutton Coldfield as well! And a great game here today too!
