The Pirelli Stadium, home of Burton Albion based in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire and play their trade in League One. Nicknamed the “Brewers” as this is the place where some big named beers are brewed.
It’s a second visit to this ground for me after a very underwhelming 1-1 draw against Accrington Stanley back in early 2020 but today it’s an FA Cup tie against Chippenham Town of the National League South. Will we see the magic of the cup today? I’ll be joining Vinny today who informed me at Hillsborough yesterday that he will be going today.
Straight onto the M1 and onto the A38 and into the Industrial estate just down the road in good time. The short walk to the ground later and here I am!
£23 to watch this FA Cup tie! What? In I go and greeted by Vinny with a cup of tea! Thanks mate! Each stand open today which is a good start and a good and loud following from Chippenham!
Out come the teams to a good noise from Chippenham who are going for it so far today! A good bunch of them in the Beech bar just down the road from the ground as well! It’s the FA Cup once again! Let’s hope for some magic today!
Kick Off! “Chippenham are massive everywhere we go! Chippenham are massive everywhere we gooooooooo! Everywhere we go!” 12 minutes in and Burton have a free kick from around 25 yards out in a good shooting position, who’s taking this one then…? 4 players run past the ball and it’s played by the fifth player and it’s played through in the box on the left and it’s fizzed across goal… And it’s turned in! But the flag has gone up! Offside! It won’t count! Chippenham fans delighted!
Burton are looking the stronger of the 2 teams so far today. 26th minute and Burton come forward down the right with Jonny Smith, he cuts inside and plays it out left and he gets into the box and crosses, it’s headed down for Jonny Smith who controls and makes space for the shot… And finishes! Burton deservedly in front here! 1-0!
“1-0 and you still don’t sing!” Well they’re right… Chippenham fans still going strong! 33rd minute and Burton play down the right, it’s crossed in, Adeboyejo with the free header from 6 yards… He’s missed! He’s somehow missed! Sitter!
1 minute later and Burton play a long ball out to the right, it’s played back and the cross comes in, it’s poorly dealt with by the Chippenham man who sets up KD Davis… To volley over… Another big chance wasted by Burton!
38th minute and Burton get the ball back on the left, it’s played into the middle, Deji Oshilaja with the header… Good save! Tipped wide for a corner, in it comes… Chippenham clear.
43 minutes gone and Burton play down the right, it’s played to Oshilaja who gets past his man and drives into the box, he’s going all the way… Oh yes!!! Brilliant finish! Burton have 2! 2-0!
Into stoppage time in the first half and Burton play down the right, it’s crossed in low and here’s Adeboyejo… Who chests it home… But he’s Offside! No goal! And it will stay 2-0 at half time.
Second half, 50th minute and Chippenham come forward now, Jordan Young gets into the box on the right and he gets a shot away… Keeper saves!
2 minutes later and Chippenham have a free kick in the Burton half to the right, it’s played into the middle, it’s flicked goalwards… Saved! Chippenham are getting closer!
2 minutes after that and Burton have a throw in on the right, it’s worked down the right and they drive into the box, it’s played across and here’s Bobby Kamwa… Bang! Just like that and it’s 3 for Burton! 3-0!
59th minute and Chippenham come forward, they have it on the edge of the box and it’s played through to Harry Parsons who’s through on goal… AND HE SCORES!!! Chippenham do get there goal! Scenes in the away end! 3-1! Have we got a game on here?
77 minutes now and Chippenham have a corner, Burton win it back and break forward down the left with Joe Dodoo, he plays it into the middle, that’s the ball, Winnall… That’s the goal! Brilliant from Burton! Good finish from Winnall! And that should be the game for Burton! 4-1!
84 minutes on the clock and Burton have it down the right wing, it’s played in low and Winnall slides for it… And he scores again! Burton rubbing it in now! 5-1!
89th minute and Burton play down the left, it’s played across, and it’s set up for Oshilaja to shoot first time from the edge of the box… Have that!! Goal of the game that’s for sure! Brilliant strike! Emphatic goal! 6-1!
Play goes on and Burton have six of the best! A big round of applause from the travelling Chippenham fans! Well done to Chippenham for getting this far!

- Atmosphere: 5/10 – Chippenham fans the louder of the 2 for certain today! Not particularly impressed with the Burton end in terms of atmosphere today sadly.
- The Ground: 6/10 – It’s a decent setup! I like standing at football grounds and I do like the seated stand I was in today which offered a great view and it’s close to the pitch! Nothing really else to say about the ground though really.
- Expense: 6/10 – £40 for fuel and £23 to get in, was it worth it? Not quite! A good day for the goal count and some Chippenham limbs but that’s all we got really.
- Overall Experience: 6/10 – Good to see Vinny again! A decent little game as well! Much better than last time I visited.
