Daisy Hill FC

New Sirs, home of Daisy Hill FC based in Greater Manchester and play their trade in Step 6 of the non league pyramid in the North West Counties Division One North. Nicknamed the “Daisies” as it’s in the name ‘Daisy Hill’. The third game for me in the first 3 days of 2022!! Today, me and Match Days Joe are making the trip to Greater Manchester to see Daisy Hill take on Bury AFC!!

The phoenix club set up after the tragic expulsion of Bury FC back in 2019 from the Football League… But the fans refused to let go and started again back in 2020! The old Bury still exist and there are murmurs of that club getting back into action next season! Will we see Bury back from whence they came one day? If Wimbledon can do it, why not them!? The journey from Sheffield to Manchester Piccadilly to Salford Crescent to Daisy Hill sees us here with 30 minutes to go until kick off!

£5 to get in to this North West Counties tie! Tasty! An expected bumper crowd is here today!! Some good flags on show too!! Kick Off! A slow start to the game as the pitch is proving to be in a poor condition cutting up in a lot of places… 17 minutes in and Bury play forward down the right wing, Lewis Gilboy has it and cuts inside in the box onto his left and he shoots… Good block! Daisy Hill clear the danger.

“Come on Bury! Come on Bury!” The travelling fans making a bit of noise now! 21 minutes on the clock and Daisy Hill win a free kick about 25 yards from goal, Connor Hughes steps up… Over! “WAHAAAAY!” From the Bury fans.

2 minutes later and Bury play a long ball out to the right, Lewis Gilboy wins it and drives at goal, he goes for goal… Keeper saves comfortably and his teammate Daniel O’Brien is not happy and thinks he should have played it across… I do too!

31 minutes now and Bury play forward again with a long ball, it comes to Daniel O’Brien who drives at goal, he gets to the edge of the box and he shoots… Over… It just bobbled as he hit it there… The pitch is not helping either side today…

35th minute and Daisy Hill have a free kick on the right hand side just inside the Bury half, it’s lumped into the box, it falls to Connor Hughes on the volley! He’s hit the post!! It’s loose and he chases it along with the Bury defender, Hughes wins it back on the right and plays it back across, it’s in towards Bebeto Gomes, he goes for the backheel… Straight at the keeper.

39th minute and Lewis Gilboy has the ball on the right for Bury, he gets into the box… A crunching tackle by the Daisy Hill man there… He did get the ball there and the Referee has given a corner, the Daisy Hill man did dive in a bit dangerously there! If he miss times that challenge, it could be career ending… It’s the sort of challenge you saw in the 1960s and 70s I’d say. The Bury players and fans are not happy with the Referee’s decision! In comes the corner… Daisy Hill clear. 0-0 at the break.

Second half, 1 minute in and Bury win a corner, “HI HO BURY! BURY HI HO!” In comes the corner… Towards James Moore… He heads over! 53rd minute and Bury have a free kick on the right hand side, it’s whipped in, the keeper comes… He gets to it but it falls to Kristian Holt on the edge of the box… He’s blazed it well over!

56 minutes on the clock and Bury play a long ball forward again, the keeper comes… He’s punched it against his own man and here’s Liam MacDevitt with the goal at his mercy… He rolls it in!!! Bury have the lead!!! 0-1!! It’s been coming!

“White and Blue army!” Bury fans in good spirits now! Can Daisy Hill make a game of this here? 77th minute and Bury have a free kick on the right hand side, it’s crossed into the box, it’s up in the air… It falls to Liam MacDevitt for the header… Straight at the keeper! 84 minutes gone and Daisy Hill have a free kick on the left hand side, in comes the cross… But Bury clear their lines.

Daisy Hill piling on the pressure now in the closing stages but Bury are looking comfortable at the back here. Into stoppage time and Daisy Hill have a throw in on the left, it’s a long throw into the box… Bury clear but only for another one, in it comes again… Bury clear again and here they go on the break, Tom Greaves chases the loose ball and so does the Daisy Hill keeper… greaves gets there first and he’s got an open goal and he can walk it in… AAAAAAAANNND HE DOES!!!! VICTORY FOR BURY!! 0-2!! That’s it!! “E I E I E I O! Up the Football League we go!” Bury fans delighted and clap their players off the pitch!!

FT: Daisy Hill 0-2 Bury AFC

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 4/10 – A bumper crowd in today but not the loudest unfortunately… The Bury fans did make a bit of noise and there was a bit of noise from the Daisy Hill faithful too but not much sadly… The Bury fans didn’t use their drum as much as I’d hoped…
  • The Ground: 5/10 – It’s a unique setup! Not much in the ground but I like what they’ve got in the ground especially the stand behind the goal!! I like the outside of the ground a lot with the gate with the sign on especially! A decent little setup!
  • Expense: 10/10 – A competitive game with 2 goals all for a fiver! Thank you!
  • Overall Experience: 7/10 – A good day out all in all! Great to see Match Days Joe for our first game of the year 2022! Here’s to many more!! Great to see Bury for the first time too for me!

26/40
