Parkgate FC (1)

Roundwood Pavilion, home of Parkgate FC based in Rawmarsh, Rotherham, South Yorkshire and play their trade in Step 6 of the non league pyramid in the Northern Counties East League Division One and are nicknamed the “Steelmen”. My 5th visit to this ground after 3 previous visits in my Shirebrook Town days and one earlier one this season to watch Rotherham United Women! Tonight Parkgate face Worsbrough Bridge Athletic which promises to be a cracker!

“I like driving in my car…” But not when the spring coil breaks… Into the garage it goes and there is me back on public transport for a few days… “SIGH” But oh well it’s not the end of the world! The Merry Miller and his dad are the photographers for the game tonight so let’s join them! The tram to Rotherham and then a taxi to the ground sees me there just in time for kick off! £5 to watch this one! Outrageous!

Kick Off! 11 minutes in and Parkgate win a free kick on the edge of the box on the right hand side, it’s whipped in… No one gets there and Worsbrough retrieve it and break forward down the right wing, it’s played to Alex Hutchinson who’s running into the box here and he shoots… Blocked! It comes back to Conor Glavin about 20 yards out, he takes a touch and he shoots… WHAT A SHOT!!! Too hot to handle for the keeper as it swerves in the air but it’s gone in and Worsbrough lead here!! 0-1!!

13th minute and Parkgate come forward now, it’s played to Bagley on the edge of the box, he cuts onto his right foot and he goes for goal… AND HE FINDS IT!! Bottom corner of the net!! And Parkgate are level!!! What a start here at Roundwood!! 1-1!!

Parkgate are starting to take the game to Worsbrough now and are looking the more likely but Worsbrough look dangerous on the break, plenty of tough tackles flying in and it’s looking like an intense match here… One I certainly would not like to be in charge of!

32nd minute and Parkgate come down the left wing, it’s crossed in, it’s headed away but only to Wraith running onto the loose ball in the box for Parkgate! Shot blocked and Worsbrough clear… Should be 2-1 there for me! 38th minute and another tough tackle in the midfield sees Parkgate break forward, a good bit of passing play there from Parkgate and it’s played to Almond in the box and he shoots… Straight at the keeper… Another big chance squandered! Parkgate keep coming and coming but at half time, the score remains at 1-1.

Great to see Jack and Jake here again from Oldham along with Turnip Blade and great to meet Chris of Groundhop UK here tonight! Best part of the hobby! A big thank you to the club for allowing me to take photos from the side that is inaccessible!

Second half, 50th minute and Parkgate come forward again, Bagley has it on the edge of the box and he shoots… Keeper dives and saves well! 1 minute later and here come Parkgate again, a well timed through ball sees Max Rhodes through on goal here, the keeper slips… OH! Rhodes doesn’t shoot and the keeper gets back up and recovers but his clearance only comes to Wraith who shoots from distance… Keeper saves! How many more are they going to miss?

55 minutes on the clock and Worsbrough play forward, it’s played to Alex Hutchinson, he gets into the box and goes for the far corner… He’s got it!! Worsbrough lead again!! Parkgate knew all about the threat of the Worsbrough break away but couldn’t deal with it and find themselves behind again! 1-2!

59th minute and Parkgate have a corner, played short, crossed in… In towards Tracey! Wide! Parkgate starting to slow down now and are not threatening the goal as much as the first half… Has this game gone beyond them?

74 minutes now and Worsbrough have a corner, in it comes… Francis with the header… Wide! 88 minutes played and Parkgate come down the left, it’s launched into the box, Whiting is free… OH NO! He couldn’t get enough on it and it goes straight into the keeper’s grasp! Isn’t that the story of Parkgate’s night?

Into the 90th minute and Worsbrough play a long ball forward, Holt gets onto it and he’s in on goal, can he finish it here…? NO! Keeper saves! Parkgate come forward chasing the equaliser, can they find it…? No! The Referee blows for full time! Parkgate made to pay for their missed chances…

FT: Parkgate 1-2 Worsbrough Bridge Athletic
