The H.E. Barnes Stadium, home of Dronfield Town based in North East Derbyshire and play their trade in Step 6 of the non league pyramid in the Northern Counties East League Division One. My 2nd visit to this ground after watching the Ladies team here back in December but it is time for that story for another time as the men’s team take on Glasshoughton Welfare tonight!! A mid table clash should hopefully mean goals goals goals of course! Bring it on!
The short journey across from Sheffield sees me here with 10 minutes to go before kick off! £5 to watch this mid table clash! Massive! Match Days Joe is here! And so is Ian along with Turnip!! Familiar faces galore!!
Kick Off! Glasshoughton starting the better of the 2 teams so far and looking dangerous coming forward. 10 minutes in and Glasshoughton come forward down the left, number 7 has it and cuts inside on the edge of the box and he goes for goal… Straight at the keeper! 17 minutes now and Glasshoughton come forward down the right now, number 2 carries it inside across the edge of the box, he’s brought down… But he gets back up and he gets his shot away… He’s hit the post!! Glasshoughton get it back but the flag is up for Offside!
As the game goes on, Dronfield start to get back into the game a bit more but Glasshoughton still looking the more likely of the 2 teams. 36 minutes on the clock and Dronfield play down the right, it’s played across goal, 2 players go for it and they come together… The Referee points to the spot… Glasshoughton can feel a bit hard done by there for me! I don’t agree with the Referee there but Dronfield have a Penalty! Number 7 steps up… And he sends the keeper the wrong way!! And Dronfield have the lead!! 1-0!
42nd minute and Dronfield come forward again, it’s flicked onto number 9 in the box, he gets his shot away… OH! Brilliant!! He manages to find the finish!!! Dronfield double their lead here!! 2-0!
2 minutes later and here come Dronfield again! They have it down the right, they attempt to cross… Corner, in it comes… Number 9 wins the header… But it’s wide! At half time Dronfield have a 2 goal lead.
Second half… They sure do a good Hot Chocolate here!! 2 minutes into the second half and Glasshoughton have come out fighting! They have a free kick just inside the Dronfield half, it’s lumped into the box, number 9 wins the ehader… Straight to the keeper!
Glasshoughton came out fired up to start with but as the game goes on, Dronfield are looking more and more comfortable by the minute. 65th minute and Dronfield play forward, it’s worked into number 9 in the box on the left, he plays it across… Glasshoughton get there and clear.
There are some real tough tackles going in but they are well timed most of them but both sets of players have got to be careful as a miss timed one could result in a serious injury and a lengthy ban! But it certainly is giving the game a proper non league feel to it!
Glasshoughton are starting to come on strong again but are so wasteful in the final third and it’s looking like Dronfield will see this game out. 86th minute and Glasshoughton have a free kick just inside the Dronfield half, it’s launched into the box, it comes to number 9… He’s having his shirt pulled there but he plays on and plays it out wide to number 12… He’s Offside! Glasshoughton continue to press… But the Referee blows for full time! A vital win for Dronfield!

- Atmosphere: 1/10 – A few in today but it was dead unfortunately.
- The Ground: 5/10 – I gave it 4.5 last time but I’m going to be a bit more generous as it does look really nice under the lights!
- Expense: 10/10 – It was a good competitive game with some tough tackling and 2 goals! I’m happy with that for certain!
- Overall Experience: 7/10 – Great to see Match Days Joe again along with Turnip and Ian!! A decent game too! Good night out!
