Leek Town

Harrison Park, home of Leek Town based in Staffordshire and play their trade in Step 4 of the non league pyramid in the Northern Premier League Division One West. Here we go again! Another Saturday and another car trip!! Bring it on!! Me and Mr & Mrs Merry Miller are on the road again! Travelling from Bessacarr, Doncaster this afternoon and the original plan was to watch Grimsby Borough vs Garforth but due to the severe winds, a change of plan is in order. I certainly don’t want to risk it after last time…

Me & the Merry Miller’s car journeys are up and running!! Eventually the final decision is Leek Town who face Colne FC! A former National League level club back in 1997 but sadly they weren’t there for long… Arrival at the ground with 5 minutes to go before kick off! Phew! £18 concession for the 3 of us which makes it £6 to get in here! WOOHOO!!

Kick Off! “Leek Town boys we are here WOOAAH!” A bit of noise from the Leek faithful!! 6 minutes in and Leek play the ball into the middle from the left, it’s number 8 with the header… Straight at the keeper. “Red army!” A bot of noise from the travelling Colne fans now!

15th minute and Leek have a corner, in it comes… Colne clear and now they break forward on the counter attack, they have it on the left, in comes the cross, it’s headed away but here comes Colne’s number 6 on the edge of the box running in, he shoots… Straight at the keeper. 4 minutes later and Leek come forward down the right, number 2 has it, he plays a 1-2 and gets it back in the box on the right to cross, in towards the back post, it’s headed across to number 11… He can’t control it and the keeper collects… It should be 1-0!

24 minutes on the clock and Leek have a corner, in it comes… Cleared for another, in comes the 2nd corner… It’s headed away and Colne break forward… Leek dispossess them and come forward once again, it’s played to number 9, he plays it to number 7, he beats his man and he goes for the curler from 25 yards… Oh brilliant! OHHHH BRILLIANT!!!! A great strike and Leek lead here!! “We are Leek! We are Leek! We are Leek!!”

It has been a fairly quiet game here so far sadly… Colne have got a chance still but Leek look the more dangerous in the final third. At half time it’s 1-0 to Leek! A very kind gesture from Colne’s manager Jon Macken and assistant Chris Kirkland who signs 2 autographs for the Merry Miller!

Second half, “Leek Town boys we are here! WOOAAH!” 56th minute and Leek play forward, it’s crossed into the middle, here’s number 5 at the back stick with the header… Keeper saves… The Referee blows for a free kick to Colne… A bit of pushing there from Leek’s number 5 I believe. 2 minutes later and Leek’s keeper plays it long, number 9 chases it and out comes the keeper… Number 9 gets there first and he’s in… OH! Somehow Colne’s number 4 gets there and forces a goal kick… Big moment in the game!

62 minutes now and Leek win a free kick on the edge of the box on the right, it’s crossed in, number 9 with the header at the near post… OH! It’s fantastic!!! Really well worked and Leek double their lead!! 2-0!!

74th minute and can Colne force a comeback here? They come forward now, it’s played through to number 17 in the box and he’s free… He’s hit the bar! Leek clear the danger… Big chance for Colne there! 81st minute and Colne come again and play it across the edge of the box to number 2 and he goes for goal… Just wide! Colne want a corner but it’s a goal kick. Colne keep on coming… But it is Leek’s day today! Grimsby Borough 4-3 Garforth Town… I think we may have missed a good game there…

FT: Leek Town 2-0 Colne
