Clayborn, home of Liversedge FC based in West Yorkshire. They play their trade in the NCEL Premier Division. Another Monday night of football for me!! Monday is fast becoming the new Saturday at the moment!! And it’s a Hat-trick of Yorkshire Trophy games with Liversedge being the next tick who are at home to Nostell Miners Welfare.
Train to Wakefield Kirkgate and then the bus to Cleckheaton station. A steady 10 minute walk and here we are! £6.75 to watch this tie! Tasty! Kick Off! Great to bump into Tony again after meeting him at Ashover! Liversedge making a bright start here and are looking likely to break the deadlock with this early pressure.
6 minutes in and Liversedge have the ball at the back, the ball is played to the keeper who plays it out… Straight to Nostell’s number 17 and he goes for the lob… And he scores!! It’s 1-0 to Nostell against the run of play! Liversedge continued to pile on the pressure despite an early setback.
27 minutes on the clock and Liversedge have a corner, in it comes, the keeper has missed it and it’s GAVIN ALLOTT!!! OH HE’S MISSED IT… About 2 yards out harder to miss but he has! He’s headed wide… Big chance for Liversedge there! 2 minutes later and Liversedge come forward again, a long ball into the box, headed across goal towards Mitchell Dunne!! THIS TIME!!! From point blank range and Dunne heads in off the bar to equalise and thoroughly deserved by the home side!
The game has fizzled out now with little chances and wayward passes and crosses and the score at half time remained at a score draw. Lovely once again to meet other groundhoppers at the game tonight!! Love these ground and game discussions of the past and to see the people behind the social media accounts in person.
Second half, 1 minute in and Amir Berchil comes down the left for Nostell, he plays a long through ball to number 17… Good save by the keeper and he clears. 52 minutes gone and Liversedge have a corner, in it comes, Oliver Fearon is there… AND HE SCORES!!! Headed firmly in! And it’s 2-1!!
Liversedge taking control of the game as they did when they started now. 61 minutes gone and a long ball is played forward by Liversedge, flicked on to Gavin Allott who brings it down and shoots… Straight at the keeper but it is a corner, in it comes… Nostell clear.
65 minutes gone and Liversedge come again, the ball is played through to Charlie Marshall, he shoots… Good save by the keeper!! Liversedge continuing to pile on the pressure but not the most entertaining of games remained in a Liversedge victory!
FT: Liversedge 2-1 Nostell Miners Welfare
Ratings
- Atmosphere: 1/10 – A decent sized crowd in today but a very flat atmosphere unfortunately.
- The Ground: 9/10 – A beautiful ground!! I have to say I think it could easily be a 10/10 ground but sadly no floodlights has stopped it… But not for long as the non league restructure will be seeing Liversedge gain promotion to step 4! It also appears there could me more work on the ground too! Both stands are fantastic and the bar gives a great view of the pitch! A definite should be 10/10 ground!
- Expense: 9/10 – £6.75 is a good price especially with goals, but it was a flat game overall and that is why it is not a full mark score this time.
- Overall Experience: 8/10 – The game was not that great but it was great to meet other groundhoppers today and to hopefully see them all again very soon!

I was there. I am not a professional ground hopper, but went with my wife after watching AFC Wakefield on Sat with a friend who is a professional ground hopper in ever sense of the word. I enjoyed the day out as did my wife and this could become a hobby. Perhaps the atmosphere was flat because there were so many ground hoppers with out a side to support. Speaking of that, you visit many grounds, I presume, so do you find yourself supporting one of the teams you watch for that game? I thought the standard of the pitch was excellent and the football was of a very reasonable standard
