Oxford City

Marsh Lane, home of Oxford City based in Oxfordshire and play their trade in the National League. Nicknamed the “Hoops” as they play in Blue & White horizontally.

It’s my first York City away day midweek as I tick Oxfordshire off for the first time! Plenty of late York goals lately and hopefully more of the same tonight! So it’s off down to Barlborough where I’ll be meeting Gary and the gang and it’s off we go!

Down the M1, onto the A43 and into the ground just in time to get a good parking spot! £18 in here! Steeeeeeep!

The ground is filling up nicely with plenty from York and some familiar faces now! I’m getting used to this York fanbase now! Out come the teams to wind and rain… Let’s hope it doesn’t affect the game too much!

Kick Off! 14 minutes in and the ball is played forward to Dipo Akinyemi for York who gets into the box and he shoots… OFF THE POST! So close there!

A very scrappy game in the poor conditions so far but it’s fair to say that York are having more of the ball in the Oxford half.

39th minute and York come forward again, Burgess has it in the box and he shoots… Deflected… Onto the post! Out for a corner! Second time tonight! In comes the corner… Out for a goal kick.

Into stoppage time now in the first half and here come York again, they get into the box on the right, it’s played across for the shot… Blocked! It falls for Dipo Akinyemi surely… YES! York lead right on half time!! Right place at the right time! 1-0! That is the last action of the first half.

Second half, 61 minutes gone and York have lost the ball in a dangerous area, Oxford get into the box on the left, it’s played across… It’s a goal… They’re level! Aaron Williams-Bushell places it home and it’s 1-1!

73 minutes now and York have it in the Oxford half, Fallowfield is going for goal from about 40 yards… OH HE’S HIT THE BAR!! Oxford scramble it away somehow! My word!

It’s end to end now! Is there going to be a final twist in this game?! 83rd minute and York come forward, it’s played over the top and John-Lewis brings it down and he’s in… Big save!! Corner, in it comes… Cleared by Oxford.

Into 2 added minutes now and it’s now or never for York, they play it into the box… It’s headed across for John-Lewis who sets it up for Will Davies who shoots… OHHHH YEEEEESSSSSSSS!! YORK HAVE DONE IT AGAIN!!! Keeper gets a hand to it but it’s gone in off the bar!! WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT!! York fans in delirium again!! 1-2!

That’s the last action of the game!! York City again at the death!!

FT: Oxford City 1-2 York City

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 3/10 – Pretty quiet but York fans gave it a go in the second half but not much sadly…
  • The Ground: 5.5/10 – Not too bad a ground but not really for this level… Love the stands at each end but it’s National League South at best for me.
  • Expense: 10/10 – £18 for National League… Steep! York winning it at the death… Priceless!
  • Overall Experience: 9/10 – Not the best of games made by a late winner!!

27.5/40
