The Rail, home of Retford FC based in Nottinghamshire and play their trade in Step 6 of the non league in the Northern Counties East League Division One. For the second time this week, I’m here again! This time it’s the new Retford… Well the latest Retford that is. Will it be as good as Retford United?
Kimberley Miners Welfare are the visitors here today for this pre season friendly. I hope they’ve brought lots of water… A beautiful day for football! Even better for Cricket! Arrival at the ground in good time and it’s have a great view from the bridge! A walk through the fan tunnel and here we are! £3 to get in here! Very very good!
Match Days Joe is here again!! It’s going to be a good day!! Let’s hope the game is not 0-0!
Kick Off! An even start for both teams here so far. 9 minutes in and Kimberley come down the left, crossed in low, number 10 with the skill shot… Keeper saves but it comes to number 9 at point blank… And it’s in! 0-1! Good start for Kimberley! Can Retford respond?
14 minutes now and Retford come forward, chipped ball over the top to number 2 on the right, he cuts inside and beats the defender, he goes for the far post… Just wide! 20 minutes in now and Kimberley come down the left again, crossed in towards number 10!! He’s put it over… Big chance!
21st minute now and Retford drive forward with number 7, he plays it to number 2 on the right of the box, he pulls it back to number 7 who shoots… Fantastic save by the keeper! It’s a corner for Retford, in it comes… Cleared!
Both teams having a fair share of possession but both look to get a goal on the break. 36 minutes on the clock and Kimberley come forward, number 10 gets it on the edge of the box, he makes space and he shoots… OFF THE POST!! And out. It’s still an even game but at half time, Kimberley remain in front.
Second half, Kimberley starting the brighter of the 2 teams this half. 55 minutes on the watch and Retford come forward, a chipped through ball into the box towards number 12!! OH! He’s missed it… Sitter! Should be level!
58 minutes now and it’s a good spell for Retford now! They come forward down the left, lifted into the box and here’s number 11!! He’s misplaced his header well wide… The sort of header you’d see from a defending player…
66th minute and Retford have a free kick in a dangerous position just outside the box, number 11 steps up… Straight into the keeper’s grasp… Poor! 76 minutes now and Kimberley come down the left once again, crossed in low to number 12… Scuffs it but he’s got it straight back for the rebound!! OH! He’s put it wide… But it is a corner, that must be why! Should have scored easy! In comes the corner… Cleared for another corner, in it comes again… Cleared by Retford!
1 minute later and Kimberley win the ball back from Retford in their own half, the ball is played forward to number 9 on the edge of the box, he makes space for the shot… OHHH! WHAT A FANTASTIC HIT!!! Top corner!!! 2-0 to Kimberley!
83 minutes gone now and here come Kimberley again, number 8 is played through, he shoots… Keeper saves! It comes to number 10 in the box and he’s brought down… “No Penalty!” Says the Referee… A definite Penalty for me!
87 minutes and Kimberley comes down the left, played to number 10 in the box, he puts it on a plate for number 9… And he gets his hat-trick!! It deserves to be 3-0 and it is!! Played across goal to tap in! Game, set & match for Kimberley now!

- The Ground: 6.5/10 – It’s a great ground! A good stand behind the goals and a great walk in!
- Expense: 8/10 – £3 is always a good price but I just wish the game had that bit more to get me out of my seat…
- Overall Experience: 6/10 – A good day out all in all! Great to see Joe once again! And a good Kimberley performance today!
