Ollerton Town

The Lane, Walesby Lane, home of Ollerton Town based in Nottinghamshire and play their football in Step 6 of the non league Pyramid in the Northern Counties East League Division One. It’s been a long time since I’ve been around these parts, but tonight I will see the town’s football team in action for the first time with Newark FC the visitors tonight.

Train to Mansfield and then on the bus to Ollerton. Arrival in Ollerton with plenty of time before kick off! So far so good! Let’s have a pit stop in the Plough! In I go and Hello Max & Emma from Emma’s Ground Guide!! One drink later and off we go to the ground! £3 to get into this one! So far so very good!

Kick Off! Newark starting the brighter of the 2 teams so far. 11 minutes in and Ollerton have a corner, in it comes… Cleared by Newark but Ollerton win the ball back on the left, played back into the box, George Slack runs in for the header… He scores!!! It’s 1-0!

Straight from kick off and Newark lose the ball in the Ollerton half, Newark press the ball and it is played back to Ollerton’s keeper Levi Owen who hits it away first time… It’s hit his own man and… It’s gone into his own net…!!! Oh dear! TAXIIIIIII!! 1-1 just like that!

14 minutes gone now and Ollerton come down the right wing, it’s crossed in low, Newark’s number 14 chests it… Did that come off his hand as well there…? “Yes!” Says the Referee! I thought so too! Penalty to Ollerton! Calum Atkinson steps up… AND SCORES!! 2-1!

16th minute and Newark come forward, the ball is played through to Sam Agar… WHAT A GAME THIS IS!!! He scores! And it’s 2-2 after 16 minutes here!!! 26 minutes now and Newark win a free kick in their own half, it’s lumped forward towards the box, Sam Agar wins the header… Wide!

31 minutes on the clock and Ollerton have a free kick in the Newark half, it’s crossed into the box, George Slack is there again!! HE’S SCORED AGAIN!!! 3-2! No one marking him but could the keeper have come and claimed that? A few coaching points there from me but it’s 3-2 to Ollerton! 41st minute now and Ollerton come forward, played into the box to number 10 in the box, he plays it across to number 8 who shoots… Blocked! Newark clear.

Right on half time and here come Newark, a great passing move here and played in to number 10… Good save by the keeper! That is the last action of the half with the score at 3-2.

Second half, Newark starting the brighter of the 2 teams again like the first half but can they pull level again? 54 minutes on the clock and Newark win the ball back in midfield, a through ball is played to Sam Agar and he’s through, he’s around the keeper… He hesitates and… The shot is blocked… It is a corner but it should be so much more! The corner comes in… Keeper punches away, Newark get it back but Ollerton get it off of them and play it forward to Conor Green who is away, he gets into the box and he shoots… It’s there!! 4-2! Newark will be kicking themselves after that one…

58 minutes now and Ollerton win a free kick in their own half, it’s played long to Conor Green on the left, he gets past Newark’s right back and gets into the box, he pulls it back for Calum Atkinson who shoots first time… It’s in off the post!! 5-2! And has this game gone beyond Newark now?

74 minutes played and Ollerton have the ball in midfield, a ball over the top is played through to Ollie Jordan who is 1 on 1 with the keeper… And finishes!! It’s 6-2 to Ollerton!! A big shame for Newark you have to say…

77th minute now and Newark play a long ball into the box, the keeper gets there and punches but it falls to Newark’s Danny Meadows on the volley… Great Volley!!! In off the bar!! 6-3! 83 minutes gone and Newark have a free kick around 30 yards out, Danny Meadows stands over it, he goes for goal… OHHHHH! WHAT A GOAL!!!! Straight into the top corner!! And it’s 6-4 now! They couldn’t could they?

Newark continue to pile on the pressure but unfortunately they couldn’t couldn’t they…

FT: Ollerton Town 6-4 Newark FC

  • Expense: 10/10 – £3 for 10 goals!! Need I say more!
  • Overall Experience: 10/10 – An absolutely fantastic game!! Great to experience that with Max & Emma tonight too!
