South Milford Cricket Club, Mill Lane, home of South Milford FC based in North Yorkshire and compete in the York Minster League Division Three. With the York Minster League not due to start just yet, pre-season continues here at South Milford with the visit of Kellingley Welfare tonight.
Me and the Merry Miller have finished at coaching for the day and now for the train to Leeds and then the train to South Milford.
A short walk into the village and here we are! Free Entry to this pre-season game! It’s Beautiful!! And to make things better, Kizz is here too!! Boom!!
Kick Off! 10 minutes in and Kellingley work forward, they get into a shooting position, the shot comes in… It’s blocked but he’s leant into it a bit there… The Referee has pointed to the spot! You run the risk when you lean in with your shoulder and arm out and I have to agree with the Referee there! It’s number 10 who takes… And scores!! 0-1!!
15 minutes now and South Milford come forward now down the right wing, they drive into the box and it is played across goal to number 8 coming in at the far post… And he finishes!! 1-1!! Game on!
It’s an even game with both teams getting chances here today. 31st minute now and South Milford come forward, the ball is played forward to number 11 who drives into the box, a challenge comes in from Kellingley’s number 3… The Referee has pointed to the spot!! That’s a poor decision in my opinion… He got the ball! Kellingley not happy and I have to agree with them there. Number 10 steps up for South Milford… He scores!! 2-1!!
33 minutes now and Kellingley come forward, it’s played to number 9, 25 yards out and he shoots… Wide. 34th minute and South Milford come forward down the right, crossed in towards number 9… He had to jump for it and heads over.
37th minute and Kellingley play forward, brilliant link up play from number 9 and 11 for Kellingley, number 11 cuts inside on the edge of the box and he goes for goal… Keeper tips over in a great save! Corner for Kellingley, in it comes… South Milford clear.
42nd minute and Kellingley come forward again, a challenge by the South Milford defender rebounds of the Kellingley attacker and falls straight to number 6 and he has a clear run at goal… He finishes!! 2-2!! Great game we have here! Kellingley press again but the score remained 2 a piece at half time.
Second half, a change of kit and team for South Milford for this half, will it pay off? 50 minutes on the clock and South Milford give the ball away in a dangerous position and it comes to Kellingley’s number 6 who runs at goal… Keeper comes out and he goes down… No Penalty! Debatable… It is a corner for Kellingley, in it comes… Cleared.
52 minutes now and Kellingley have another corner, played short, it gets to the edge of the box and the shot comes in… Keeper parries it straight to number 12… He scores… But the flag is up and it won’t count.
58th minute and Kellingley play a through ball to number 14 who gets into the box on the left, he plays it across for number 12 to run onto… He gets there and finds the net!! There it is! 2-3! Well deserved on the balance of play.
61 minutes gone now and Kellingley’s number 17 comes forward, he plays a 1-2 and he’s in on goal… He deceives the keeper and he goes for the lob… Brilliant!! 2-4! Cool as you like!! 67th minute and here come Kellingley again, number 14 is played in, no flag here… He finishes!! How many are Kellingley going to get here? 2-5!
70 minutes now and Kellingley have the ball again, played forward to number 6, he beats his man and gets into the box… And he scores now!! SIX!! 2-6! Getting embarrassing now for South Milford… 75th minute and here come Kellingley again, through ball to number 6, he’s past the last defender, he’s around the keeper… It’s there again! Too easy! 2-7!! Are we going to see double figures tonight?
1 minute later and guess what…? Kellingley get the ball and play it forward… Number 11 on the left who runs into the box, he drives at goal and goes for it… He hits the post and scores!! It’s 8!!! 2-8! 79th minute and here they come again, number 16 is played through, he’s in again… Keeper saves this time and South Milford clear.
86th minute and Kellingley get the ball up field with number 6 who’s through… He squares it to number 12! It’s 9!!! 2-9! An absolute rout!! The Referee blows for full time a few minutes early much to the relief of the South Milford team… Should have stayed with the first half team I’d say…

- Atmosphere: 1/10 – A few here tonight but no noise sadly.
- The Ground: 2.5/10 – It’s a basic set up for the level, no stand and nothing really to stand out from other grounds unfortunately.
- Expense: 10/10 – When there’s goals for free entry, it will always be 10!
- Overall Experience: 5/10 – A fairly average night out, great to see Kizz and the Merry Miller tonight and a straight forward game overall.

You are being very harsh for a club operating at level 14 of the pyramid. What do expect ?
It was the game that let it down out of all the ratings, Overall Experience involves the game quite a lot, if it was the same team that had played the first half and given them a good game it probably would have been a higher score, if I was rating the village it would definitely have been a higher score! What score were you expecting?
