Stockport Sports Village, home of Stockport Town based in Greater Manchester and play their trade in Step 6 of the Non League Pyramid in the North West Counties League Division One South. Nicknamed the “Lions” with one featuring on the club crest.
My second visit to this ground with the first one being back in 2019 with the Merry Miller and Pete to see them lose 2-1 to Wythenshawe Town but tonight it’s a Stockport derby as they face Stockport Georgians here the Village. Which way will this one go?
Well the way I’ll be going is along the A57 through Glossop and on to the A560 and into the car park with around 20 minutes to go before kick off. £6 to watch this Stockport derby! Lovely! Walking towards the stand… “Jake!” Who’s that? It’s only Mark! Great to see him again along with 2 other Mansfield fans here tonight! His friends have good taste that’s for sure!
Out come the teams! The Stockport pride is at stake! Who dares wins?!
Kick Off! 10 minutes in and Town with the ball in the Georgian’s half and Gardner will shoot from outside the box… Over!
19 minutes now and McLaughlin has beaten the Offside trap and he’s in for Town… The keeper is there to stop him and Georgians clear.
Town are having more of the possession but it’s a half of very little chances unfortunately…
38th minute and the Georgians come forward now, Finlay Bartram bursts down the left, he gets into the box and cuts inside to shoot… He’s missed! His teammates think he should’ve passed that one… I do too!
44 minutes gone and Georgians come forward down the left, it’s played across low and Sam Hinds is there… He scores!! Georgians take the lead in the Stockport Derby!! 0-1! That is how it stays at half time.
Second half, 47th minute and Town are pressing from the off! It’s played into the box from the left, it falls to a Town man at the far post to fizz it across… And it’s turned in! James Vincent was there to guide it home and Town are level in an instant! 1-1!
Great to have Anders join us here tonight! 59th minute now and Town have a corner, it’s played in…… Where’s that going…? OH IT’S GONE ALL THE WAY IN!!! A goal direct from a corner! You don’t see that every day! Town have turned this game on it’s head! 2-1!
77th minute now and it’s played to Jamie Walsh for Town on the left just outside the box and he beats his man and he’s in… It’s a brilliant finish!! 3-1 now! That could be the goal to seal it! 3-1!
Into the 90th minute and Georgians come forward just as stoppage time is announced, it’s played into the box on the right and it’s played across and Harry Lynn slides in… He’s got it!!! Now then! Have we got a grandstand finish on our hands here? 3-2!
Georgians press and press… But it’s Town who have the bragging rights here tonight!

- Overall Experience: 4/10 – Great to see Mark, Anders and the Mansfield fans here tonight! Not the best 3-2 I’ve ever seen though really…
