I certainly have missed these Friday nights! It’s been a while! It’s also a ground I’ve been looking at for a while and sadly over recent years has fallen victim to flooding during the winter months but hopefully tonight for the visit of Ossett United, we will be flooded with entertainment!

TGIF! Onto the M1 and onto the M18 and onto the A1. One hour to go before kick off and here I am just outside the ground! “Is your last name Topliss?” Great to be greeted by the boss of Facebook’s ‘Your Football Page’ herr tonight! Mr John McClure! £9 to get in here! At this level? £3 pin badge! Now for the first half of Brazil vs Cameroon… Zzzzzzzzz… Hopefully not a sign of things to come. That first half comes to an end and out come the teams here to the Prodigy! It’s Friday night non league! COME ON!!

Kick Off! A scrappy start but Ossett look the better of the 2 teams. 14 minutes in and Ossett with the ball at right back, it’s played back to the keeper but it’s wayward… Where’s that going…? It’s just wide of the post… Wow! It’s a corner, it’s played short and Hudson drives into the box for Tadcaster… Ossett intercept and clear.

4 minutes later and Ossett play down the right, the cross, the Tadcaster defender slips and it comes to Oli Metcalfe to shoot first time… Wide!

23rd minute and it’s a throw in on the right for Ossett, they get a cross in, Danny South attacks it… It’s headed wide but it is a corner, in it comes… Ossett get there at the near post… Keeper parries it straight to Harry Coates… Who heads the rebound wide.

32 minutes on the clock and it’s a free kick to Tadcaster in a good shooting position from around 25 yards, Jebson-King shoots… It’s off the post! So close! “Oh Ossett United!” A bit of noise from the travelling Ossett fans here tonight!

39th minute and Ossett drive down the left, it’s crossed in, it’s headed away, it comes to Oli Metcalfe and he shoots from 25 yards… It’s dipping… It’s off the post! Tadcaster get it away but that was inches away from the first goal! Play goes on but Ossett will not break the deadlock before the break.

Second half, 55 minutes now and Ossett play down the right, it’s crossed in, it’s flicked towards goal… The keeper tips it wide! Corner, in it comes… It falls for Danny South who chests it… But the keeper collects and he lumps it forward, Crofts is in here for Tadcaster, keeper comes… And he’s taken him out there… Tensions are boiling… Referee goes over to his assistant… What is the decision…? It’s a yellow card! Lucky keeper there for me! Free kick is played in… Straight to the keeper’s grasp.

59th minute and it’s a corner for Ossett, it’s whipped in… It comes for Craig Nelthorpe at the back stick… OH! He’s somehow missed it from point blank… He’s headed over from about 3 yards… Sitter!

72 minutes played and it’s a free kick on the left of the box for Ossett, it’s played in, Tadcaster get there but it comes for Janni Lipka to strike in the box… Well saved! Ossett get it back outside the box, played back in, Alex Peterson stretches for it and gets there… Just wide!

78th minute and the Tadcaster keeper hits it forward, it’s played to Fogarty, he cuts inside on his left just outside the box to the right and he shoots… Just wide!

88 minutes now and Ossett are piling on the pressure, it’s played forward and it’s backheeled and Ossett have it in the box on the left, it’s played to Janni Lipka and he makes space to shoot… Sensational defending but Ossett get it back and drive down the left, it’s played to Lipka in the box and he shoots again… Wide!

We’re into stoppage time here… This can’t end 0-0 surely! Tadcaster come forward, it’s lumped to Guilfoyle who gets a hold of it, he drives, he plays it out wide, he gets it back and he drives into the box, he gets past the defenders and he’s IN… OH IT’S SAVED! What a way to win it that could have been!

We roll on and it’s a free kick on the left for Ossett, it’s played in, Danny South chests it for the shot… OFF THE LINE! HOW ON EARTH HAS THAT STAYED OUT!!?? Ridiculous defending here from Tadcaster!

We’re not finished yet here come Tadcaster now! They have it down the right, it’s played in, Fogarty brings it down and he shoots on the turn… Surely… It’s straight at the keeper! Massive opportunity!

There can’t be long left now… But Ossett play down the left again, it’s played in, James Cadman controls and shoots… Saved… It’s loose… He gets it away but only to Ossett outside the box, it’s played into the box and here comes the shot… High, wide and not very handsome…

There’s still time somehow! Ossett again, this has to be the last chance! There will be some serious scenes if there is a goal here! Ossett work the ball across the box, it comes to the left of the box and here comes the SHOT! Keeper saves! That is that! What an ending to a game that was… It’s not over yet though… Danny South is not happy with a Tadcaster fan… Non League! Never change! Well you can change tonight’s scoreline if you like…

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 5/10 – Good spirits the crowd were in tonight!
  • The Ground: 7/10 – Really like the ground! Some very nice features but the stand behind the goal is the main attraction point but some good little stands behind it too and a decent bar!
  • Expense: 8/10 – £30 in fuel, £9 to get in, £3 for a pin badge and £2.50 for food, was it worth it? £9 is a bit steep for this level but for entertainment value, that ending was priceless, everything but the goal!
  • Overall Experience: 9/10 – Great to see John McClure here again tonight with his granddaughter, the best 0-0 I have ever witnessed!! It would have been biblical had there been a late winner! 2 good community spirited clubs at it tonight! Never thought I’d be so buzzing to see a 0-0 but it really was breathtaking at the end. Why was it not a 10? Have a guess…
