Wombwell Recreation Ground, home of Wombwell Town based in South Yorkshire and play their trade in Step 6 of the Non League Pyramid in the Northern Counties East League Division One. Nicknamed the “Wellers” as it’s in the name “Wombwell”.
They’re finally here in Step 6 and they are making a go of it and currently challenging for the play-offs! Tonight they face Horbury Town who themselves are looking to get in the play-offs which should hopefully make for a interesting affair!
Arrival into the ground early with around an hour until kick off. £3 to get in here! UNBELIEVABLE! Terry Curran and friends are here once again following his son playing for Horbury! The Merry Miller and Shaun are here as well and a bold Red Card prediction from the club secretary and the players are ready! We’re at Wombwell once again! Don’t let me down!
Kick Off! Some early pressure from Horbury bur Wombwell get away with it! 9 minutes in and Wombwell come forward, it’s played through in the box and out comes the keeper… He’s clattered the Wombwell man there and it’s played across… Referee has pointed to the spot! Penalty for Wombwell! The ground can’t believe it but after I show them the replay they agree. Kershaw steps up… And he scores! Wombwell lead! 1-0!
25th minute and Horbury come forward, it’s played over the top to Bojang in the box and he shoots… Straight at the keeper.
Some late pressure from Horbury in the first half but Wombwell hold on and go in at half time 1-0 up.
Second half, 50th minute and Horbury loft it into the box… The keeper has lost it and it falls for Horbury to shoot… OFF THE LINE! Wombwell survive.
1 minute later and it’s a foul on the Horbury man and the Wombwell man has already been booked… He’s OFF! Second Yellow! The Club Secretary was right!
60th minute and Horbury come forward now, it’s played through and the shot comes in… He’s found the net but the Referee has awarded Wombwell a free kick in the build up… And it’s another Red! Second Yellow for the Horbury man there and it’s 10 vs 10!
66th minute and Horbury have a long throw into the box… It falls for Wombwell and the shot comes in… Good save but it’s crossed back in from the right, Cory Woodward with the header… It’s there! Wombwell double their lead!! 2-0!
Horbury really knocking on the Wombwell door but it’s looking like it’s just not going to be their night here…
Into Stoppage time and Horbury loft it into the box, it’s headed across goal… And it’s struck home! Ash Butterworth slides in and finds the net and Horbury have hope! 2-1!
Horbury press… But it’s Wombwell’s night here! Another Red Card after the final whistle to a Horbury man… Dissent I’m guessing!

- Atmosphere: 3/10 – A few cheers and jeers but nothing too loud sadly…
- The Ground: 5/10 – Too far from the pitch for me… Hopefully they rectify this one day! Really good ground otherwise!
- Expense: 10/10 – £3 for all that is probably the best value for money this season!
- Overall Experience: 10/10 – Great to see everyone here tonight and a great drama filled game! Love my trips to Wombwell!
