I’m not tired honestly… Brighouse is calling for me and Match Days Joe! Bridlington Town are the visitor to West Yorkshire tonight.
Meeting Match Days Joe can mean only one thing… Off on the train to Doncaster once again! Here we are! And off we go! Just under an hour later and here we are! £9 to get in here! *Sigh*
Kick Off! 2 minutes in and it’s a corner for Bridlington, in it comes… Number 9 with the header… Straight at the keeper! 6 minutes now and Bridlington come forward, played to number 8 coming down the right, he gets into the box, he shoots… It’s wide… But was it a cross attempt?
“Orange and Black army!!” A bit of noise now from some local Brighouse boys here tonight!! 26th minute and Bridlington play a long ball forward, it’s flicked on, number 10 runs onto it, he’s around the keeper… He shoots… It’s off the line! Out for a corner, in comes the corner… Brighouse clear.
28 minutes on the clock and corner for Bridlington again, in it comes… Headed away by Brighouse but Bridlington get it back, it’s worked out to the right, crossed in… And headed in… But it’s offside and it won’t count…
36th minute and the game is starting to heat up with challenges flying in. The Referee needs to get a grip here! Brighouse long ball to number 11 on the right, he gets it down and gets into the box, He takes a touch and shoots… Shot blocked! He took too long there.
43 minutes now and Brighouse throw in on the right, they get it down the right wing, crossed in towards the back post, number 7 charges for it…He doesn’t get there, Brighouse clear the danger. At half time the score remains goalless.
Second half, 51 minutes played and Bridlington’s number 10 is played through and he runs at goal, the shot… Good save by the keeper! 59th minute and it’s throw in on the left for Brighouse, played in, crossed in… OH! It’s hit the bar! Brighouse get it and flick it… Is that a hand ball, “No!” Says the Ref! Brighouse fans thought it was, Bridlington clear the danger.
“Come on Brighouse!” The Brighouse boys continuing to cheers them home! 63rd minute and Brighouse come forward, played out to the right, crossed in low, number 8 slides in… He can’t connect with it properly and it’s wide. “We’re the Brighouse boys making all the noise everywhere we go!” Brilliant from the Brighouse boys tonight!
Brighouse starting to threaten a lot more now but Bridlington still posing a big danger on the break. 77th minute and Brighouse break forward down the left, number 17 charges at goal, he cuts inside on the edge of the box, he shoots… Blocked by his own man who’s offside… Not looking good here… Could the 0-0 run be coming to an end?
It’s end to end stuff now! Brighouse come forward then Bridlington come forward, is there going to be a winner here? 83 minutes on the clock, Brighouse get the ball out to the right, it’s crossed in… It falls to number 9 and he hits it… High, wide and not very handsome… 84th minute now and Bridlington work it forward now, good passing move here and it comes to number 8 around 20 yards out and he goes for goal… Well over the bar!! “That’s gone to Filey! That’s gone to Filey!” Yeah like well over the bar…
“If you all hate Scarborough clap your hands!” It’s becoming a very nervy and tense game here!! But at least we can involve the few Bridlington fans stood next to us!! End to end stuff!! Surely this can’t finish 0-0! 86 minutes played and Brighouse break forward again, it’s played forward into the box for number 10 and he shoots… OH! Great save! So close but it is a corner, in it comes… Brighouse win it at the back post and it’s headed back across goal… Bridlington win the header and clear.
Starting to lose my breath at this game now!! It’s unbelievable what we’re seeing! Anybody’s game here will there be late drama!? 89th minute and Bridlington have a corner, in it comes… OHHH! Both Bridlington players get there at the same time and fail to connect with the header… Brighouse clear but only out to the right where Bridlington can retrieve, it’s crossed in again… Deflected cross… It comes for number 5… That could go anywhere!! OH! IT’S OFF THE LINE!!! Would you believe it!!? Into the 90th minute and Brighouse break from that clearance, they play down the right wing, driven into the box, it’s played in low and here’s number 7… AAAAAHHHHHHH IT’S IN!!!!!! I DON’T BELIEVE IT!!! I SWEAR I DO NOT BELIEVE IT!!!! LIMBS IN THE STAND!!! IT’S NOT GOING TO BE NIL NIL AFTER ALL!!!! Brighouse have surely won it here!! It’s so cruel on Bridlington… 1-0!
There’s still time for Bridlington, can they find an equaliser!? They pile on the pressure! Bridlington can’t do it and the Referee blows for full time! What a win for Brighouse! What a night!!! Best game that me and Match Days Joe have covered so far!! Just brilliant!

- Atmosphere: 7/10 – Those Brighouse boys were sensational!!! Really passionate and encouraging!!
- The Ground: 5/10 – The stand is what makes this ground! There is nothing too much around the other sides but it does have a decent backdrop on one side. For this level, I do think it could be just a bit better.
- Expense: 10/10 – £9 isn’t too bad, but for drama and scenes like that? Worth every penny!!!
- Overall Experience: 10/10 – One of the best times I’ve had at any game!! The Brighouse boys were fantastic! The Bridlington fans very friendly and gracious! Me and Match Days Joe just keep finding these crackers!!!
