Nicknamed the “Tigers” as the club plays in Orange & Black. It’s a big one today as it’s a Yorkshire Derby live on Sky Sports!!! Sheffield United the visitors here today!! Off we go!!
An early start for me today… An 8am train to Hull! It’s certainly a busy one even at this time… I have and I haven’t missed this I should say. 1 hour 15 minutes later and here we are! “We are Blades! We are Blades! Oh we are we are Blades!” Echoing around Hull station!! I’ve certainly missed that! Even though I won’t be joining them in the away end, I would be more than happy to see a Blades win today… Sorry Hull fans… I do have a soft spot for the Blades I have to say!
But first it’s time for some food! The reason I have got here so early is for this!! Rate my takeaway on YouTube who has gone around the country and more trying different takeaway restaurants and his favourite takeaway is right here in Hull!! It would be rude not to! Off I go!! Nibble is the name and here we are! Build your own sandwich!! Rosemary Chicken burger it is! With a side of Hash Browns of course! Let’s tuck in………………… OH! MY! WORD!!!!!! I can safely say that was absolutely unbelievable!! Simply glorious!! Rate my takeaway was certainly right! Best Hash Browns ever and best burger for me that!!! All for £6!!! I’d have been happy paying £106 for that!! The service was fantastic as well! Thank you Nibble!!

But time’s up and it’s time for the game! Off to the ground I go! £27 to watch this Yorkshire Derby! Better be worth it! “We are Blades! We are Blades! Oh we are we are Blades!” Can the Hull fans respond? “We’re Hull City! We’re Hull City! We’re Hull City!” They can… But the Blades fans are winning the noise battle so far. Empty seats!” Hull fans still boycotting in protest of the Chairman it seems… The top tier is empty sadly… Let’s hope the Hull fans who are here can raise the noise level! “Hark now here! United sing! The Wednesday run away! And we will fight forever more because of Boxing Day! United fans still going strong!
Both teams enjoying plenty of possession so far but no real clear chances as of yet. 17 minutes in and Sheffield United come forward down the right, it’s crossed in, it’s in towards Billy Sharp… He’s done it again!!!! He heads home and the Blades fans go into delirium!! 0-1!! “We’ve got Billy Sharp! Billy Sharp! We’ve got Billy Sharp!!”
“Da da da! Football in a library!” The Hull fans struggling to raise the decibel level so far. 25th minute and Hull come forward down the right hand side, Josh Magennis crosses in low towards Keane Lewis-Potter… Sheffield United get there and clear the danger. 32 minutes on the clock and Hull lose the ball in United’s half, John Fleck picks it up and runs at Hull, he gets to the edge of the box, it’s a great run! He sets it up for Morgan Gibbs-White to shoot… Good save by the keeper! Corner for the Blades, in it comes… It’s a free kick to Hull.
36 minutes now and Sheffield United come forward, Gibbs-White plays it to Billy Sharp who plays it Rhian Brewster and he goes for goal… Straight at the keeper. 38 minutes on the watch and Hull have a free kick on the left in a crossing position, in comes the cross… Headed out for a corner, in comes the corner… Di’Shon Bernard with the header… OH! It’s just wide! Close!
43rd minute now and Sheffield United come forward again, great passing move there and it’s played through for Billy Sharp and he’s away… He gets into the box and he goes down… Penalty!! The Referee has given it! I don’t think that was a Penalty personally! It’s Billy Sharp to step up… Saved!! It’s out for a corner, in it comes… Punched away by the keeper. At half time the score remains 1-0 to Sheffield United.
Second half, “da da dadada dadadada City” The Hull City drum has been found it seems. 50 minutes on the clock and Sheffield United have a corner, in it comes… John Egan is there with the header… It’s there!!!! It’s 2 for the Blades!! They are looking really comfortable here now!! 0-2! “Shoreham Boys we are here!” And now there’s a bit of trouble on the far side between fans… No one wants to see this! “We are Hull! We are Hull! We are Hull!”
Thankfully both sets of fans have calmed down now, back to the game! 55 minutes on the clock now and Hull come forward, the ball is played to Lewie Cole who chests it and volleys it on the turn from 25 yards out… Straight at the keeper. “Da da da! Football in a library!” It’s gone quiet again…
On the hour mark now and Sheffield United have the ball in the Hull half, played to Morgan Gibbs-White on the edge of the box, he Cruyff turns and shoots… Tipped over brilliantly by the keeper! Corner for Sheffield United, George Honeyman and Billy Sharp wrestling in the box… They need to be careful here! In comes the corner… John Egan is there again! HE’S SCORED AGAIN!!! 0-3!! What a day he’s having!! What a day the Blades are having!!
65th minute and Hull come forward down the right wing, Mallik Wilks gets into the box, he crosses, it’s headed down for George Moncur… OH! He’s got underneath it and it goes up in the air for the keeper to collect… Should do better there!
73 minutes played and Hull come again, a through ball is played to Mallik Wilks on the right side of the box, he plays it across goal to Keane Lewis-Potter… They’ve got one!!! It’s 1-3! Can Hull pull this back!?
77 minutes now and Hull play a long ball forward, United don’t deal with it and it falls to Thomas Mayer who gets just inside the box… He scores… But the flag is up… No goal! 88 minutes now and Hull play a long ball to Lewie Coyle, he brings it down and drives forward, he gets to the edge of the box and he goes for goal… High, wide and not very handsome! The 90th minute now and United play a chipped ball into the box for Oli McBurnie to strike! Just wide! “We love United we do! United we love you!” The final whistle blows! Big win for the blades there!

- Atmosphere: 7/10 – Out of the 2 sets of fans, Sheffield United were louder! Fantastic support from them today, Hull had a bit of a go but were drowned out by the away fans today!
- The Ground: 6/10 – It’s a decent ground! Fairly similar all the way around and with a double tier on one side, it does lack a bit of character I’d say.
- Expense: 7/10 – £27 is not too bad for the Championship but we got a good game so I can’t moan about that!
- Overall Experience: 8/10 – A great day! Nibble was fantastic! The game was fantastic! Can’t moan with that! Just wish the Hull fans weren’t boycotting…
