Ryburn United

Ripponden Wood, Halifax Road, home of Ryburn United based in Ripponden, near Halifax, West Yorkshire. The Euros is going strong!! OH YES! The Yorkshire Amateur League goes on and I will be there while it does!! DOUBLE YES!! Today, it’s a trip to Ryburn United for their game against Alwoodley FC!

Magic Rock Lager!

Bus to Huddersfield and then another bus into Ripponden and here we are and I’ve only gone and bumped into Graham, who me and the Merry Miller met at Stanley United that day!! TREBLE YES!!! Free Entry to this Yorkshire Amateur League tie!! QUADRUPLE DUPLE YES!!!! A new lager on the menu today: “Magic Rock Lager” brewed in Huddersfield… And it’s delicious!!! Only the game can let me down now…

The river Ryburn! Where this team gets it’s name from!

Kick Off! An even start to the game from both sides. 9 minutes in and Ryburn have the ball on the left, crossed in, headed away by Alwoodley, number 7 picks it up on the edge of the box for Ryburn, he makes space for the shot… And finds the net!!! It’s 1-0!

A very tight game we have here with little conviction in the final third. 30th minute and Alwoodley have a throw-in on the right, thrown to number 5, he shrugs off his man and shoots on the edge of the box… Straight at the keeper. 36 minutes on the clock and Alwoodley play forward, played to number 5, he lays it off for number 10 who shoots from 25 yards first time… Over!

41 minutes gone and Alwoodley are looking good here, they come down the left, it’s crossed in, Alwoodley get to the cross and bring it down, played to number 16 in the box, he’s got time and space and he goes for it… And scores!! Good finish and it’s level! Alwoodley are the better team now but at half time the score remains 1-1.

Second half, an even start to the half from both sides again like the first. 57 minutes on the watch, Ryburn lump it forward, number 8 chases it and the Alwoodley keeper comes for it… The keeper has lost it and here’s number 4 for Ryburn to roll it in… And he has done! 2-1! The keeper should do better there, fumbled to number 8 to play it to number 4… He’ll want to forget that one and fast!

61 minutes now and Alwoodley win the ball back in midfield, played down the right, crossed in and here’s number 10 with the header… Straight at the keeper! 74th minute now and Alwoodley play a long ball forward, number 10 chases it with the keeper committed… They have collided!! Number 5 picks it up for Alwoodley in the box, can he score? HE CAN!!! It’s 2-2!! The Ryburn defender on the line can’t force a miss and we are level again!!

Straight from kick off and Ryburn play forward, they win a free kick in the Alwoodley half… Oh dear me! The Referee has shown a Red Card!!! But what for? Ryburn’s number 8 is clearly angry about something and the players are squaring up to each other now, the Referee has got to stop this! Number 8 for Ryburn has been shown the red card, it looks like he has said something he shouldn’t have… The Ryburn bench in disgust at the Referee now… Ryburn take the free kick… Alwoodley clear.

79 minutes gone and Ryburn play a long ball to the right, it’s pulled back and here’s number 14 coming in… “HANDBALL!!” Shout the Ryburn players… “No!” Says the Referee! Definite Penalty for me that! The shot blocked by the defender’s hand he has to give that for me! Alwoodley win a free kick shortly after all that and number 7 for Ryburn is not happy and he needs to be careful here, the Referee has pulled him over… Yellow Card given and it’s another Red!! A second yellow for him and Ryburn are down the 9…

Have Ryburn shot themselves in the foot now? The game has fizzled out a bit now with both teams not offering anything going forward, can Alwoodley punish them…? No is the answer and the game remained 2 each.

FT: Ryburn United 2-2 Alwoodley FC
