Salisbury FC

The Raymond McEnhill Stadium, home of Salisbury FC based in Wiltshire and play their trade in Step 3 of the Non League Pyramid in the Southern League Premier Division South. Nicknamed the “Whites” which should give an indication on what colour they play in!

Formerly known as Salisbury City who once played as high as the National League before they folded in 2014 still in the National League at the time, but they weren’t dead for long soon reforming as Salisbury FC and hoping to return to where they once were and currently second in the League! Could they even go one better than last time perhaps?

Today they face AFC Totton who are sixth in the League, surely that should make it a close competitive game? So it’s on to the M1, to the M40, to the A43, to the A34 and off at the A303 and it’s a first trip ever to Stonehenge! A quick look at that and it’s time for the football!

£13 to watch this Step 3 clash and £1 for parking! Not too shabby! Out come the teams! It’s 2nd vs 6th! Let’s have it!

Kick Off! 4 minutes in and Totton have it on the right, in comes the cross and they’ve got a man running in… OH! It’s saved! Point blank save but they’re not done yet, it’s set up for the volley… SAVED AGAIN! Brilliant goalkeeping there! Still 0-0 somehow!

13th minute and Salisbury come forward, it’s a through ball to Coppin and he goes around the keeper… He’s took it out for a goal kick when he should’ve shot!

A very poor first half sadly with poor crossing, poor passing and not enough shooting from Salisbury in particular sees the first half end 0-0… One of the first first halves I’ve ever seen sadly…

Second half, 59th minute and it’s a corner for Totton, in it comes… the header at the near post… Close! Just wide in the end!

3 minutes later and Salisbury have it on the right, it’s crossed in… Uh-oh! That’s come off the Totton defender and that’s going in… OH IT’S SAVED! The keeper claws it away from goal and it’s going to be a corner for Salisbury, in it comes… Totton clear.

73 minutes now and Totton come forward… “HANDBALL!” The Totton players and fans scream for a handball somewhere, I can’t see it from here… The Linesman has flagged… Uh-oh! The Referee has stopped play to speak with him… Penalty! Looks like it was handball! It’s Rendell to take… And Rendell to score! Totton lead here! 0-1!

Salisbury pressing now for the equaliser! Last minute of stoppage time and it’s a free kick on halfway for Salisbury, in it comes… Headed away but Salisbury retrieve it and play it back in to the box… Keeper punches and the shot comes back in… Over! That’s it! Totton hold on for the win!

FT: Salisbury 0-1 AFC Totton

Ratings

  • Atmosphere: 4/10 – Salisbury fans not too bad but on another day it could’ve been so much better!
  • The Ground: 8/10 – Quirky! I like the layout at the terrace end and the stand is unique with the bar stand at the top! very similar to Boreham Wood with the open away end but overall it’s a great ground!
  • Expense: 7/10 – £14 including parking isn’t too bad but when the game was as poor as that I can’t give full marks!
  • Overall Experience: 5/10 – Need a better game and atmosphere when stood in the cold!

24/40
